The Brian Singer/Kevin Spacey factor just makes it weird to go back to, knowing what we know now. It makes "stalker Superman" even creepier, if that was possible.

Yes this is before both Brian Singer and Kevin Spacey were outed as gay pedophiles. They both slept with underage boys.

I think it's very obvious there was some queer baiting and gay signaling going on with Superman Returns. And some strange Christopher Reeve fantasizing that went beyond simply making a movie in continuity. All from Singer's perspective.

But all of that aside, at the time I thought the only thing that flick was missing was someone for Superman to actually fight. The heavy lifting stuff was awesome, but it was still just another heavy lifting Superman flick. Could've also done without the kid thing - just like doing without it in the books.

But at the time? That entire airplane/shuttle launch scene? Oh man - it's still awesome....
