My biggest issue with 2012 was the recurring use of "mutagen monsters" instead of "mutagen mutants".

I get that the rules of the world were reflecting that the ooze would lead to truly unpredictable results, but the concept of "mutants" over "monsters" really just works better in TMNT.

For your 2012 gripes, my thoughts in bold. Anything skipped is just pure nonsense not worth going any further into:

They do explain this. Falco and Rockwell were specifically studying the mutagen for the purpose of developing its telekinetic properties. Kinda silly, but between April and Kraang Prime, we know there’s something there.

Psychic thing was established in “Monkey Brains”. I think his appearance was just from being a burn victim. Doesn’t explain the teeth though.

This pissed me off and is just another example in the long list of the writers strange insistence on writing Kirby out of the show. Just ****ing kill him off if you don’t want him around!

This is our only example of a clean double mutation. I guess it’s fine that it turns you into a more badass mutant? Wolves are related to dogs. It was an improvement, so I’ll take it.

This is no less valid than the 4kids ooze being a byproduct of the Transmat device. My headcanon for the Mirage mutagen is from an unused Tristan Jones Tale where he explained that whatever technology the Utroms used to synthesize human skin for their exosuits was what caused animals to become humanoid.

The only other time this applied was Xever. He ate that weird fish from the street vendor. But he and Bradford had a long hand to hand fight against the turtles before they got doused, so why would they not be mutant turtles as well?

Yeah it was weird that it was being used medicinally. Would have made more sense to just mutate him for the purpose of making him useful again. And I was never a huge fan of this Super Shredder design, although it did grow on me. A traditional mutant would have seemed weird, but he could have had some kind of animal motif. Snake would have been cool since they’re predators to both rats and turtles. Plus it would mirror Karai.
