I don't know that your average random person joins a forum solely to s#itpost. That takes a special kind of fanbro.
And since, as you mentioned, this is a pen fandom scenario then the vocal minority of people who do this sort of thing from every fandom suddenly become the majority of people on that website.

The Dr does a good job of it.

You're right as well. Sadly that is also a common thing all over the internet. In every forum/community there is a minority of users who have personal and political agendas and only seem to join to stir up trouble and argue about politics, religion, etc. Sadly this place isn't exempt from this.

It's at times like this that people should be thankful for CyberCubed. Criticise the guy ALL YOU WANT, but there is no doubt in my mind that that man dearly loves the Turtles(and Pokémon as well).

Yeah, I would also agree that those who join fandoms just to stir trouble with their own agenda would be few (unless my inexperience on line is talking here). Politics will come up everywhere and to be fair a lot of the time they are in their own threads. I agree with Powder on the point of this being an escape (enjoyment), I wouldn't want to see the political discussions at the level they are at spilling into the other threads.

Yeah, I bug Cubed with questions a bit due his sheer love of .. all?/most TMNT.

I personally wonder why cube isn't banned yet myself. despite his 'love ' for turtles, he also brings alot of toxicity.

but, I guess every group needs someone you love to hate.

Cubed isn't toxic. He is never mean or rude to anyone. Hell, he doesn't hate anyone or cares if others hate him.

Your memory apparently isn't anywhere near as long as mine is.

Here's my issue with people complaining about political discussions happening everywhere, and how much they dislike that:

Everything is political.
There isn't a decision made that doesn't have some sort of a political bent to it one way or the other.

From which books get published, to which artists are chosen to make those books, to which animation studio gets a license. It is all political.

That you're just seeing it now means that you're lucky enough to have not been affected by it before. You're the one in 10,000.
Congrats.

I totally get the concept of escapism, and completely understand that people would like to take a break from current events, but I don't I think it's possible to take a break from politics. It permeates everything we do whether we're conscious of it or not.

Mature people on both sides of the political spectrum should be able to have a healthy conversation about current events. That takes us back to toxic people.

Each thread is typically like an explosive Thanksgiving dinner with the stereotypical racist family member ranting about who knows what (...and then throwing out the victim card).

Healthy conversation can only occur on a foundation of mutual respect, and...that's hard to find online. So instead what we get are folks who have difficulty liking or disliking a thing without also making their thoughts on that thing a value judgement on others.

I believe I'm far less guilty of that now than I was when I got here, fresh from Fark as I was.

But now we have people who crow about having been banned from other places online, as if that's a badge of honor.

There are different degrees in that.
As the good ol' saying goes: "Sometimes drapes on the stages are blue, because it's author's favorite color".

Doesn't mean it should infect every topic.
Unless you think that every single thread should be turned into political battle, which is insane and stupid and reeks of unhealthy fanaticism.

I visit some places, which perfectly capable of having discussions about topic at hand, without "Trump this" and "SJW that" and discussion and atmosphere are very friendly and relaxing, unlike many other places which hellbent on paranoia and fear-mongering about left / right invading their discourse.

Quite funny that you of all people talk about mutual respect and "not bringing personal judgement" into conversation.

I don't want to drag out conversations about other members on threads (apologies Cubed) but I agree with Prowler, I have not seen him being nasty or abusive. (I can see the two of you have a history)

Wasn't Vagita whining about this happening to him at the RPF earlier in the thread-- even blaming it on some sort of studio cabal out to get him.

I've never had a problem with Cubed.
