Is there a "toxicity" in this fandom?
Or specifically this board? I don't think there is at all but I had a very strange discussion today on Facebook.
Where do you guys come down on this? Am I way off?

There's toxicity in any tmnt group/board/forum where there are fans from different tmnt versions

But is that really "toxicity" or is that just... the way it is?

This community used to be much worse. The last time we have actually had a good times discussing the differences between various TMNT-versions, and which one fans prefer. (I created some during mid-2016, more came from various users)

It can be pretty terrible here, but I'm more bothered by the presentation of the opinion. If ya like something, don't like something, good for you, you've made it known. Some people agree, some people don't, alright, have a cookie.
Wait... you're stating the same thing again in the same topic? Almost verbatim? Without prompt? Why are you complaining about this unrelated thing in this topic? Don't you think you're being a bit of a drama queen by stating that everything you disagree with is "ruining the franchise", no matter how small? Why do you keep visiting threads about things you don't like just to keep sh*tting on them? Like repeatedly over the course of months? Are you really pretending your opinion is law? -These are the things that bother me. Having an opinion is one thing. Disagreeing is totally acceptable. But if you're an adult, you should be behaving as an adult, internet or not.

I don't really know the fandom beyond this website. Do old "FW and first 3 movies only" fans count as part of the fandom?
It's divisive to to all the big differences between each incarnation/version of the TMNT. Naturally people will have different preferences as to how they want the TMNT portrayed. I guess there is some toxicity, but I've been to worse fandoms. Like wrestling forums, for example. Oh man... and anime communities as well. |

I’d say you proved the guys point. I personally don’t agree with his preferences but that doesn’t make him wrong. And what’s this about people threatening to leave and not follow through?

That's like the internet in general these days though. People always having to be "right" or be an ass toward others for an opinon they don't agree with creates a vicious circle however.
Person 1: States opinions/views/feeling on something. Person 2: Can't leave it alone, has to counter them and try to invalidate person 1's opinion/feeling on it, or simply insults them if they have nothing to actually offer on the topic. Person 1: Because invalidated, continues to "complain" or otherwise discuss it. Person 2: Continues to be an ass because they refuse to see they're part of the problem since they can't leave well enough alone and let a person have their say without having to butt in. Behavior continues to try to invalidate. And so on... I've still seen far worse non-TMNT places online. |

As fandoms go I think this one's pretty mild. Or at least it is now.
Which isn't to say it doesn't have its fair share of edgelord crap, and gatekeepery bs. I would consider that stuff toxic.

Yes, all fandoms have their toxic re-curring topics but in general things are fine here.
I consider a toxic fandom those that have reputations that outgrow their communities, My Little Pony, Rick & Morty, Sonic the Hedgehog, are some examples. As far as this board, I've known since I joined that it had a bad reputation but I don't see it really, people have bickered about 2k3 not being the OT, TNM sucking, PD movies ruining the TMNT but in general things are rather tame here, never understood the "bad reputation". Fortunately, I don't think the TMNT fandom could nearly hit the levels that the Rick and Morty fandom has..

With Sonic it is probably the profusion of furries in the fandom I would imagine. I think if that's not a particular fan's bag it might get kind of annoying after a while.

This fandom (and by extent this forum) is sort of like a weird melting pot.
There have been so many versions of TMNT throughout the years, and each one has appealed to different audiences, and depending on each individuals circumstances (maybe it was the show going on at the time, maybe our first comic book, first exposure to the brand, etc.) we each have a version we’re convinced is the best. And because we love that version that much, we tend to voice that opinion (sometimes loudly) and we want to convince others of the same. This can strike some people as annoying. But “toxic”??? I don’t see how. As far as I can tell, we’re about the same as any other fandom. And as far as these boards go, let’s face it; some of us are whack-jobs. We insult and berate each other frequently, are very judgmental of others’ opinion, and we can be really fickle in regards to the direction the brand takes. But I like to think of that as part of this place’s appeal. |

Echoing previous statement - due to amount of TMNT incarnations its just hard to find hardcore fanboys of only one of them. Therefor, low amounts of toxicity.
