Hey, Splinter fine tuned his reflexes playing Frogger while reading his Ninjutsu for Dummies picture-by-picture book, written in Japanese, a language he have never been in contact with before.

That Coat of Arms demands respect.

That's exactly the look I imagine Leo had when he saw the last movie.

So how would Raph's reaction be like?

Pure rage, or just plain unamused?

Murderous rage. That scene from Volume 2 where Donnie has a vision?

There's a Turtle standing with blood-drenched fists, but this time it would be a bloodied Michael Bay lying dead against the wall.

THAT, good sir, would be Raph's reaction.

Only thing I can really see as a negative is the completely open floor plans. How do you really even get away from each other... that would be maddening, no wonder Raph is grumpy. lol There's likewise five at my house and it's enough as it is when we actually have rooms with doors.

I hope these poor Turtles at least have a reasonably luxurious bathroom off camera with a working jacuzzi for a bathtub. And a big bottle of Mr. Bubble. Fighting crime and dealing with the likes of Michael Bay, they deserve at least that much.

Edit: Though at this point I hope April has helped them obtain some real furniture.

It's tacky, over-the-top and has no organic feel? It looks like a set where people have thrown a million things that they think would look "cool", and yet it has absolutely zero lived-in feel.

Also the flag. Chalk this up to cultural differences if you will, but I never really had a moment where I thought to myself "You know what I'd love to see? Splinter and the gang showing some red-white-and-blue Amuuuurican patriotism!".

Come on.

I can see it now, Mikey doing his own customized pledge of allegiance:

"I pledge allegiance
To Victoria's Secret models
And the shell-tightening
For which they stand

One pizza under cheese
With pepperoni and Baysplosions for all".

With it's walls of boom boxes and pizza box furniture etc. There was little sign of Splinter's influence either parental or in terms of his Japanese heritage...well he didn't have that in the movie but he was certainly based on Japanese culture.

The new lair seems exactly the same. I guess those candles are supposed to be Splinter's but otherwise it still looks like a giant club house. I know that people may scoff at this but the fixation on cars and the objectification of Megan Fox it seems the movie has more Michael Bay influence and I can't help but look at those flags and think it's another (admittedly small sign) of his influence. Not that the turtles can't be into motor racing and be proud of the country they live in (or under) but it seems quite un-TMNT to have it displayed like this.

I'd usually not take this kind of thing too seriously, but considering that Bay actively removed any direct connection to Japan from Splinter and the Turtles' origin... it makes sense. And fits his extremely limited vision.

That's really one of those things that's mandatory for a TMNT story. And nobody involved in these movies understands that. Of course.

You know what you're getting with Michael Bay. Instead of adjusting what he does to suit the strengths of the story or the property, he adjusts the story/property to suit his own interests and whims. Every time!

Complaining about the overall look and design of something isn't exactly a tiny detail, is it?

It doesn't seem like a family home. There's little sign of a parental influence or a Japanese influence like pretty much ever lair has. I think Pennydreadful summed it up well. They've thrown so much kewel stuff in there which I assume is to highlight the teenage aspect that they've neglected the overriding theme that TMNT is a family and the lair is their home.

Keep in mind that, This is only one section of the lair.

We have yet to see pics of the area with the wall of monitors, if they still have it.

(Nor seen 99% of the lair.) Well, it does look like it or a new setup of it to the left, but this appears to be a rather awkward shot behind it.

*Automatically reads it as real life wording of "it stands* Soooo wrong. Damn you[r writers], Mikey.

If their room is that upper level, I keep feeling like there are planets or something hanging from the ceiling. Plus that purple light in there... Now I totally want them to have the glow in the dark star stickers and a black light. lol

- One of tomorrow's TigerClaw posts. I already jumped ahead and Doc Brown'd that sh*t.

For all we know, the lair will look a bit different since part of it was blown to bits in the last movie.

Maybe they covered the holes in the wall, and fixed all the damage that was left from the explosion in the lair.
