They're only wavering because they expect we'll like the OG crew being back. But you can't go much lower than season 2, and season 1 was only slightly better.

Let it die.

I can't wait to hear about all the new traumas they've inflicted ok all the main cast since Nemesis. Like Riker's dead baby trauma.

Well that won't be a challenge, good to see Kurtzman setting achievable goals.

I'm ready to be done with Picard, one more Season, I can suffer through that?

It's not as easy as walking away from Disco, sorry not for me, enjoy by all means. But Picard is also seven seasons of TNG, I feel the need to push through this. It feels connected to the Trek of old I remember, that I enjoyed.

Which is why I have been able to enjoy Lower Decks and Prodigy, despite the nature of both shows (Sitcom and Kids show). There is connection to old canon. The Klingons look like I remember even Prodigy did the 1960's bridge justice.

Prodigy is surprisingly good for "Star Trek for Kids"...but when has Star Trek not been meant for the whole family to sit and watch together? Still irks me.

Yeah, many of us were all kids/teenagers when TNG, Voyager and DS9 were airing

Yeah, I'd thumb my nose at TNG routinely as a kid. "That looks nerdy!" every time a commercial would run, or I'd change the channel. But one day, out of a lack of alternatives, I watched it and accidentally got hooked.

While I can sort of get digging Prodigy on a certain level (I watched a bit of it but couldn't continue as it has nothing to do with Star Trek and everything to do with Guardians of the Galaxy Junior), I can't fathom enjoying Lower Decks. I gave it about... 6-7 episodes. I maybe lightly chuckled once. It's not funny. The main, ongoing joke is Star Trek itself and it uses references to obscure episodes as currency. You're supposed to go "OH! They remembered that one episode of DS9! What great writers that understand Trek these are!" No, these are hacks and this isn't Trek.

"We must fight or die!" Explosions, explosions, phasering everywhere, giant evil black ship, etc..

And that Admiral talking to Picard in the beginning about what the old days must have been like for Picard and Riker sounds exactly how Kurtzman and his cronies must view TNG.

I am very much so looking forward to this season although my head is telling me that it's not going to go well.

My guesses for how this unfolds:

-it's mostly a cameo-fest of the TNG era cast
-it sets up a female TNG spin-off that the studio thinks is going to be huge but then will be pulled once whatever fan-backlash happens from however they will insult the audience this season
-Riker dies when in fact that character would be the best option for a spin-off
-Worf's "Pacifism" dialog is intentionally there to ease any attackers on Boomers or older Gen X. Basically so that the millenial and Gen Y brain trust can't write online articles about how he is an aging example of an old-era of angry old-men, made only a little bit harder to write because he isn't white
-The entire "Data Saga" is convoluted even more by Lore's inclusion, using some explanation for his "aging" that simply could have been used on Data.

You mean the first two seasons didn't do that already?

Yeah, they'll probably push Captain Seven of Nine next. With her girlfriend, Raffi and one or two token TNG/VOY/DS9 characters maybe, in a show not about exploration.

I wanted to be excited about that last trailer, but I honestly have no idea what is actually going on.

Well didn't you know? Star Trek isn't about a functioning society going into space. It's about social justice. Didn't you know that Gene Roddenberry always meant that "Social Justice is the Final Frontier". The Final Frontier couldn't possibly be "outer space".

Plot trailers relying on good seasonal writing don't exist anymore.

There is a large Trek convention in Chicago every year that looks great. I've always debating about going but with nu-Trek I don't think it would be the same convention-fun that it might've been back in the 2000's or something.

Yeesh.

What do you folks suppose the odds are Picard ends up with a secret son by Beverly? These hacks only revere the movies and they've DEFINITELY seen Star Trek II a bunch (which is where that happened with Kirk). And there's an oddly, vaguely Stewart-esque youngster on a new Picard S3 poster.

Yeah, what's this season all about? Amanda Plummer wants revenge and took command of the latest giant black evil ship. So explosions!

John Campea regular and TNG documentarian Robert Myer Burnett said the third season is the best they've made so far. He said this on a comicsgate livestream too so he's not just shilling for hollywood. He also normally hates modern Trek, including Picard seasons one and two.

Making something better than objectively garbage isn't saying much. I'll give it a chance, of course, given the bribery of bringing back the whole TNG cast. I guess the best we can hope for is that it's at least somewhat as good as the heights of the TNG movies got, which is still a weird benchmark to try and strive toward given those movies represent very little or nothing of what made TNG great.

Considering there's only...what...one good TNG movie?

And even that one doesn't quite pass inspection on close look. But we forgave a lot at the time with the big budget look and Goldsmith music. Which is an interesting conundrum. I don't know your age, but I'm assuming you're more or less mine. We saw TNG initially in our teens, no? And we saw Generations also in our teens, ish, yes?

What a sad falling of standards there. From TPTB. And going from "what actually hooked people" to "bad."

Any pronouncements that "this is the best season so far" could simply and subjectively mean that the season is simply just "better" than the first two. I expect that the first episode or two most of us will be riding high on the "'memberberries" and it will decline from there.

The real litmus test will be after the season wraps up and looking back on it in truth. Remember, the addicts and on-boarders - thousands of them - came out of Iron Man 3 going on about how "it's the best Marvel movie YET!". It's easy to get caught up in nonsense over quality.

Still - I want the season to be great. I want the TNG "Undiscovered Country".
