So many redundant trades, I still wonder who buys them all. I remember going to a comic store last month and seeing tons of IDW TMNT trades dating back YEARS that nobody ever bought and just sit there on the shelf. A lot of the regular tpb's for the main ongoing from before issue 150, those best of collections, a lot of the mini-series trades, even old Archie trades. Like nobody ever buys them. Especially now that we have Compendiums and other high quality collections.

At least Nightwatcher is finally over.

I think in the recent comics the Foot have infiltrated the police are pretty much patrolling the streets in search of the Turtles.

I’m sorry to be a hater but IDW can **** off with this “Return to New York” business. C’mon now.

They even did "City at War" too. It's like... why, WHY invite that comparison when you don't have to? It isn't going to go well, odds are.

I know. First of all, knowing the difference might seem intuitive enough to us, but **** like this confuses and frustrates new readers.

And yes, in both instances no one would have even suggested these were the IDW versions of those arcs had they been named something else. With 4kids and Nick doing it (same two stories), you can at least see the slightest resemblance of the Mirage stories and say “oh this is that story for babies”.

This is just pure marketing.

Marketing to who, though? That's what I don't get. The people who know the difference won't care or will be put off and make unfavorable comparisons, and there won't be any name recognition from the people who AREN'T familiar with the original story. At least if it WAS the IDW spin on things, there would be a reason, but they're basically just original stories reusing old names. It's basically a lose-lose. Who are they aiming at with this sort of thing?

Just like the Foot Cyborg Police from The Last Ronin comic. In the relaunch #2 comic, there's stuff like "See? Mikey is starting to show signs of TLR Mikey!"

Probably the fake fans who exalt Last Ronin as some kind of masterpiece. The ones who never read the Mirage comics but have big opinions about them because they skimmed all the Wikipedia entries.

Few high spots with various artists early on, but overall this run of TMNT is pretty damn boring.

"But with Hale's militarized Foot Patrol wreaking havoc all over the city and bringing shame to the Foot name"

IDW Foot Clan’s never been honorable from the start. Shredder's father and Splinter tried to change them, they ultimately failed. Not to mention, this was was allowed by Karai. IDW Karai has basically always been Cersei Lannister type. She always has this smug confidence in her own dumb plans that end up failing. If someone hadn't been constantly cleaning up her messes, she would have died long ago.

That's exactly my point. Why force people to MAKE that comparison if you don't have to? The McTMNT™ fans will buy anything TMNT anyway, so no need to worry about them. The fans that never read Mirage won't care. The ones that have, either from the old days or even ones picking up one of these "omnibuses" are going to make that comparison and are going to judge the new story directly against the old one.

"City Fall" was announced and it was like, "OK, this is like the IDW version of 'City at War' I guess, but they're not LITERALLY calling it 'City at War' because it won't and can't be that, so that's fine." But then later on they just went ahead and did that, too.
