I tried contacting the seller as well.... I really don't think he/she is going to have a change of heart on selling these.

Roquelaine, a french artist. But not so much public in France interested on those, lack of orders... and it's a shame cause it would means there won't be the "vilain" serie.

Erik Burnham Art
A comic shop nearby had a last-minute signing by Erik Burnham! I was only familiar with his writing for IDW's TMNT and was thrilled to find he sketched a mean turtle:
and shred-head: and I picked up this subscription variant to which he added this apt caption: He was a super nice guy and we talked a bit about the Ghostbusters crossover, which he said was originally written out to be a whopping 6-8 issues (full of more character-driven downtime and sidelines banter). He said he also knew some vague plans of where the main TMNT storyline was going after issue 50, but if he said anything Tom Waltz would appear out of thin air and kill him. I asked if he'd ever be drawing a turtles book for IDW but he said he wasn't that interested with all the Nickelodeon nitpicking - kind of a bummer, and he's not the first artist I've heard this from... maybe a cover though some day! |

That's awesome! I've had a few words with him online here & there, he seems like a super nice guy. I really like his work on the turtles, so it's nice to know he's as cool as his writing. Great sketches there! I dig that his Donnie has an OT face with Nick design aesthetics.

My latest museum framed piece is now in its official spot next to a couple other gems. Here's a crappy phone pic:
(On the far left is a RPG cover, the middle two are the Turtlemania inside cover and New Age Comic cover, and to the right is the LE Hardcover.) And on a related note, I have some new art coming in and it will be my first IDW! I've actually not read a single IDW issue (when the new comics first came out, and I saw all the millions of manufactured "rare" variants, as a completionist collector I was completely turned off and decided not to support) But I decided to pick up the IDW HC Collection coming out in March as I really want to read some new stories and I think picking up these type HCs like this will work for me. My focus is still vintage E&L so I was at a bit loss regarding this new breed of artists. I didn't realize the quality artists putting out great pieces like Ross Campbell, Santolouco, Duncan to name a few. So still getting my feet wet but have to say its nice seeing art that isn't 4 figures for a change! Hoping this doesn't start me down some crazy new path... |

Looking forward to seeing what you got OA!
Question for you Art experts. I've been wanting to add a Richard Corben TMNT page to my collection for quite some time. He's one of my all-time favorite horror comic artists alongside Bernie Wrightson. There are 2 pages on eBay right now but I feel they are outreagously priced. For those of you who already own some of these pages, what should I expect to pay for these? I just don't want to overpay drastically. |

Ah, well that's partly speaking to me then heh.
Actually, having checked, there are only four pages from the TTT story listed on CAF, and I own two of them. I believe I paid $300-350 each for them iirc, to give you some idea. But that was quite a number of years back, and page prices have gone up since then.

Thanks Mayhem! I think I reached out to you a while back about buying a page from you hahaha. The 2 on eBay are priced at $2000 each with best offer :/ That is way more than I want to spend on those pages as cool as they are. I was also wondering, are there pencil and ink only versions of these pages? I see that they have overlays leading me to believe that there may be other pencil/ink versions of these pages? What do you guys think?

That's how all the pages are I believe, certainly the two I own, and the other two on CAF are exactly like that. Inks with acetate line overlay.

Somebody bought the Corben splash for $2,000
What is interesting is that no offer was made to try to get a better price. That's when you know money is no object to the buyer lol. How I wish that were the case for me |

i talked to corben several years back about his tmnt artwork. he said he sold off ALL the tmnt work he did a long time ago. i also enquired about the original inks used to make the acetate. he didn’t recall what happened to those, they could have been lost or sold.
just to note, i've been searching for Corben TMNT art since around 2008. granted i did not always conduct daily searches, but i tried my best and made sure to check at least once a week (which i still do!). during that time i've only come across 3 auctions (including this current set) and one private sale at a comic convention. the first couple times i came across an available piece, i didn’t have the funds to get it but i eventually scored some i've spoke to a bunch of dealers and artists who have said they've seen/come across the painted blueline/acetate pages before, but never the actual original line art for Corben's tmnt stuff. so who knows what happed to it... the avg cost i've seen in the past was $300-400 per page. factor in current popularity of tmnt, his age (he'll be 75 this year), he adimant about not taking commissions, doesnt attend conventions, and as far as i know (which is little) he hasnt responded to emails for the past 3 years. even with all that info and the fact that the two pages on ebay are GREAT pages, $2k is about double what they're actaully worth imo. i think a grand each (those are prime examples) is reasonable. |

My sights are more geared towards movie production art, so I'm not super knowledgable on the TMNT comic art market. Those prices seem high, though. I recently scored several super cool Bernie Wrightson creature design pieces from Ghostbusters for WAYYYYYY less than those Corben TMNT pages.

10 yrs or so ago, these painted pieces were selling at $300-$400. Which was ALOT of money at the time for Turtles art; everything outside of turtles 1-11 was available at that price point. I've only seen about 7-8 pages in all that time so not many of those have popped up. So while I'm not saying 2k is fair, I'm also not saying that they should still be selling for what they were selling at a decade ago. My 2 cents.
As an aside, about 6 years ago(?) I was offered the beautiful #33 cover painting (real painting, not acetate) for 11k or with the 28 page interiors for 20k even. Nowadays that still is quite a chunk in the TMNT art world...but back in '09 or so? I couldn't afford it and when I chatted with the dealer not much later, I asked about it and he told me it all sold. Not sure for how much or to who but obvisoulsy someone with deep pockets and considering it hasn't been seen since, I imagine its buried deep in a collection somewhere. Knowing that, and seeing as how these acetates are likley the ONLY way to get Corben TMNT art, perhaps the current pricing isn't too far off...? |

Thanks to my man Sofistocat, I can scratch two Mirage artists off my bucket list within half a year. 2015 is off to a great start. Can't wait till I get those beauties delivered to my doorstep. I'll post them here as soon as they pop up in the mail

My advice, if the Corben art is something you REALLY want, jump on it while it's available. The price seems high, but you'll be kicking yourself in a few years if it's something you REALLY want. If it's just a cool curiosity, you can get way more for that price. Wow. That's grail money. To each their own, I guess. |
