TMNT: The Works Volume 1

Didn't notice anyone post about this, but I received my book the other day from Amazon. It's a pretty hefty book and a lot nicer than I expected.

Here's a few shots I snapped with my Windows Phone 8:

Got this the other day as well.

Kind of surprised by a few things. One, that the interior pages are matte -- I've never picked up an individual Color Classics issue, but always assumed they were glossy. Two, that the cover is matte as well. It aids the pizza box motif, but warning, it makes the corners VERY prone to damage, as whatever the outer material is isn't very strong. Mine arrived with dings already present, and it's picked up a few more just from being set down.

But overall a nice book. And the interior covers by Lawson are really nice, even if the pizza theme remains horribly unfitting for this book.

Silly question: Is Shredder still in that ridiculous blue full body stocking?

Looks awesome, would you say it's worth getting if you have the Ultimate collection?

Yes. No coloring changes that I'm aware of. (Again, I didn't pick up the individual issues, but I've heard of all the strange choices.)

That's hard to say. Me? I actually like the re-colored versions, strangeness like the all-blue Shredder aside, and was willing to spend the $30 on Amazon to get the collection. If you don't mind double-dipping and want to see these issues, I'd say that's a pretty good price for a nice format.

If you can only get one, though, always go with the Ultimate version. It has the extras like the Eastman and Laird notes, and, while I know this isn't a huge consideration for most people, does seem to damage less easily because of its cover material, which could be a factor if you want to keep these books as your archive version of the series.

I only gave this book a quick perusal at the comic shop the other day. And while I didn't have the original print Color Classics on had to do a comparison, this publication seemed to be a much higher quality job than the single issues.

I don't buy comics with blue Shredder's wearing bodysuits that go over his arms and hands. So no.

Why IDW didn't correct this for the trade is be beyond me.

Hmm... Shredder didn't seem to have a bodysuit by my eye in the new collection. I thought I saw distinctly colored hands. And as I recall, his suit did have somewhat of a more red tone.

But maybe I didn't get a good enough look at it.

Yeah its not the blue coloring that bothers me, (he was colored blue on the Ultimate Collection Vol. 1 cover), but its that they covered his arms and hands too with blue latex or whatever that was supposed to be.

I do know that in #1 color classics, it wasn't just the blue arms, but the inconsistency. Some panels his hands were blue and others they were not. There was actually a little of that in #10 of IDW's issue too. I guess they couldn't decide whether he was wearing blue "gloves" or not.

Too bad these aren't softcover. I don't feel right about having modded reprint trades in hardcover. It drove me up the wall for a year that the Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness TPB was only available in hc when all my other AoD trades were sc.

If I didn't already own the Ultimate collection, as well as the single issue Color Classics, I would probably spend $30 on this. Looks neat!

That's how I feel, but I still might get it.

Yeah the pizza box design is misguided but this looks 200% better than the cover they had been advertising for this book. I'll be picking it up this friday when I hit up my comic shop.

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend, but of course I read it myself before I gave it to her. I think it's great. The corners on the cover definitely get dinged up easily, but that's really the only complaint I have. The cover design/table of contents don't fit the tone of the comics but I loved it anyway, I think it's pretty nifty.

I actually love the design of this thing! There was a time when I would pick up every and all trades - alas, money and space and other priorites mean that I can only afford so much these days.
