If you like it, then great! I've sat in judgment of taste before. It just makes a person come off like an asshole. Carey does have a remarkable range. I'm just not that into 90's R&B, though.
I'm going with Aretha or Diana Ross. Or Patti LaBelle.

I've been listening to Kesha's late 2010's material. Her early stuff was going hard around the time I was out of high school and partying a bit so I definitely indulged in her "brush my teeth with a bottle of jack" style lol. Her old stuff is repetitive but pretty damn fun and definitely helped shape trash pop of the last decade (for better and for worse, mostly worse).
Post Dr. Luke assault allegations she's leaned more into her Nashville roots. Her mom wrote a big hit for Dolly Parton back in the day. Her last two albums have a lot of variety in them and while there are plenty of misses she's got some really cool stuff on both albums. Cowboy Blues is a good stripped down pop country song with a catchy chorus and Resentment is pretty emotionally vulnerable. Bonus points on the latter for featuring Brian Wilson. She's got fun pop-rock songs on her previous album. Let Em Talk ft. Eagles of Death Metal has a ton of energy. Pop music is generally best enjoyed in the background at a party. There's a reason why almost every pop album is front loaded with radio friendly singles. Most pop stars are only going to have a handful of songs most people listen to. I need to try listening to more Lady Gaga. The Fame Monster was actually really good but then Born this Way came out and while I appreciate the sentiment, that song blows. It's just not fun to listen to. |

I am from a non-English country so I don't know a lot about different singers, but did people all been into pop songs "trash" when they were teenagers.
Only the most profitable English songs were mostly introduced via public media in my country and they are Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys something like that and I was feel kinda cool back then. I was also into Miley Cyrus "Hannah" thing cause I was still a teenager. I don't know about R&B but did all songs I mentioned is that kind? These songs and some pop Taiwanese songs in 90s and 00s are definitely gay now in my current opinion. Now I enjoy Beat dancing songs, Bad Ass songs, and country songs, etc. In fact anything that not gay The idol groups are raising a ton of popularity especially in east Asia and I just can't appreciate that thing. Pop cultures are getting more and more childish. |

Absolutely. Also the "Telephone" song with Beyonce... especially the music video.

I haven't given late Lady Gaga a fair shake but her early work is just great. The Fame is a great album but I personally prefer the EP that followed, The Fame Monster. Bad Romance, Alejandro, Dance in the Dark, Speechless, Telephone, just a bunch of great songs. They definitely feel like an extension of The Fame but with a bit more grit and attitude.

The trouble Hailee Steinfeld has with her label reminds me of two other female recording acts that had worse troubles with their label.
Ghost was a huge international hit for Ella Henderson. Her followup singles from the same album did well enough in the UK and she even had a pretty big collaboration. Surely a sophomore album was guaranteed, right? Apparently Syco (Simon Cowell's record label) were not satisfied with what she was coming up with so blocked her from releasing anything or leaving and going to another label for a long time. Jojo was pretty much the above on steroids. Blocked from releasing new music on Interscope but also blocked from leaving the label and releasing music on another label or even independently. Law suits lasted for years and over a decade later she's free to release music again. She's even re-recorded her first two albums so the old label doesn't profit from her work. The only reason I didn't post the new version is that I gotta "woo" near the end. Love both these songs. Been listening to them a lot lately. Last edited by Jester; 01-21-2021 at 04:53 PM. Reason: Adding a working link to Jojo...is this the song? |

Lately we've been listening to a lot of Lindsey Stirling, and a YouTube artist who goes by The Snake Charmer(she is a bad-ash bagpiper who also sings!) Both are amazing musicians. Snake Charmer does some really awesome covers of Enter Sandman and Zombie.

There was a thing going on for a while early in Gaga's career where fans were speculating that Gaga had a johnson. That's why in one of her earlier videos, the one with the female prison had one of the inmates tell another inmate 'told ya she was a girl' poking fun at that.

I don't see the big deal about guys listening to female artists. They tend to have the best voices, and I personally just like women anyway.

The wife's been listening to Lana del Rey every day for months now. And she is fantastic! The new album is great, too.
