I don't understand why people love hating on TMNT III. I thought maybe it was only casuals, but I've found lots of people here with a negative opinion on III. I have nostaglic connections to the film, so there's that, but I also enjoy the Feudal Japan setting (however inaccurate!) and Michelangelo's character development. In terms of silliness, I don't think III was any more goofy than SotO, the latter of which saw poor Donatello's bo staff take a severe cut in length. ![]() |

Additionally, Secret of the Ooze feels more like a TMNT movie, even if they did tone down the violence. TMNT III lacks a lot of TMNT stuff. If TMNT III had had Renet and Savanti Romero, I would have been more interested. It honestly feels like a story designed for those two, but they ran out of money, so we got a more generic version of the story. |

TMNT II threw the monkey wrench into things, by listening to and being overly sensitive to the parent groups at the time. TMNT III had a lot of potential and way more heart than II, actually had them using their weapons but ultimately, sadly was pretty much sh**.

Nowadays they tell the parent groups to screw off.

TMNT III is one of the best time travel and samurai/ancient Japan themed movies ever made.

To a point, I can forgive people a bit back then. They were the first generation of parents raising TMNT fans and most probably knew little about it other than "a cartoon and toys my kid is obsessed with." The fundies would inevitably s*** their pants, though the 1990 movie not being kiddie like the cartoon probably caught some parents by surprise if they didn't pay much attention and only responded to their kids begging to see it. They didn't have a whole internet to check reviews on first and find out if it's something they're okay with.
Now anyone today throwing a fit if something isn't kid-friendly enough, screw them. There's an internet packed with details and opinions and, for this franchise, almost 40 years of content that clearly isn't all for kids. (And while most of it is kid-friendly, it deserves the occasional thing that isn't.) If you're the last person on Earth to have any knowledge at all of what the TMNT is and can't bother to check to see if you approve of it for the kids, well that was entirely your own absentminded fault. |

Absolutely III had more heart than SotO, which is why I believe Michelangelo naturally received the most character development.
Indeed! |
