It will be an arc in the ongoing as well as a miniseries, as it's scope is simply too vast to be either one or the other.

I might just get the separate book and skip the ongoing. Especially if the separate book has better art. Not digging the current ongoing art style.

Too late. Zog the Magnificent has already been hired to head the Netflix adaptation of Mutant Town.

Remember when Nostalgic Critic’s critique of TMNT was that they sat around and talked about their feelings.
Good times, good times.

If we were to have a serious conversation about adapting IDW into a show, I would recommend the following:

That’s only assuming that the supposed show can make it through 200 issues worth to even worry about Mutant Town/Armageddon game.

Comic books adapted to TV go by very quick though. Most IDW comics are 20-22 pages, you can show that whole comic in less than 10 minutes in an episode.
It's like how anime has to add filler so they don't catch up to the manga as seen with Dragon Ball, with IDW TMNT they would breeze through the comic run very quickly if it was ever adapted to animation, even including all the specials, mini-series and one-shots. |

Would this be a good starting point to jump into the current TMNT comics? I honestly don't know where to start.

With what we know of the upcoming arc I would have to say no simply because you would be missing a lot of backstory.

I unironically recommend you start with #1. Tom Waltz's run is that good. |
