I guess, they wanted it to be smart and funny. And anti-shippers, of course.
Do you think modern Holytrash writers gonna pander to fans who they hate for being "hateful nazis" and not so "progressive" as themselves?

I think the big fallacy here is to think even for a moment that this is somehow a love letter to the now-mid 30s, 40s fans of the original cartoon. It isn't. This is a proven IP they're taking out of the drawer because it worked once. A framework, they can then manipulate.

Since I had the day off, I turned this on Friday morning before taking my mom to see Downton Abbey: A New Era. I was very skeptical about it because I just didn't think the title characters sounded right at all and I was disappointed that Jim Cummings didn't reprise the role of Monterey Jack nor did his predecessor Peter Cullen. The good news is that Jim did
Spoiler:
briefly reprise the role of Fat Cat along with a few of his other Disney characters like Pete, Pooh, Tigger, and Darkwing Duck. He even for a moment got to do his Shredder voice from the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series after serving as an alternate for the late James Avery.
Corey Burton was also briefly involved with the film by
Spoiler:
doing Dale's high-pitched Chipmunk voice and Zipper's intelligible buzzes.
Even though her part was small,
Spoiler:
by only appearing at the beginning and towards the end
hearing Tress doing Gadget's voice again really took me back to my childhood. Eric Bana did fine as Monty and Zipper's new voice wasn't bad.

The film was actually pretty funny and clever. The origin story was very well-done and so are the references to pop culture. I also liked how poked fun at awful-looking CGI characters like
Spoiler:
the titular ones from Cats and Paramount's initial Sonic.
This is the second time where
Spoiler:
Peter Pan is portrayed as a villain like he was on Once Upon a Time and he is ironically given a storyline that was kind of similar to his first voice actor, the late Bobby Driscoll.
Overall, it was much better than I thought it would be and
Spoiler:
Paul Rudd's cameo was hilarious.

I’ve seen this 8 times already I’m obsessed.

I like that twist that neither Chip nor Dale was a love interest for Gadget.

I am kid of paradoxically confused: absolutely most of my favorite franchises from my childhood had been butchered, tortured, defaced and mutilated.
It is really better to stick to the past in this case, than bathing in the piles of ****, that some people eat, because, they don't know better.

Spoiler:
More fans have been noticing about the portrayal of Peter Pan is very disrespectful to his late voice actor Bobby Driscoll.

Since Randy is in this movies, does that mean Disney was cool with South Park showing Mickey Mouse fucking a bat?

People are reaching. Disney don’t owe him anything, it’s not a daily job nor was he fired. And Disney is not the only studio in existence to offer acting job.

The Drama Queen strikes back and no one cares. Cry harder.

Same. But it’s so hilarious reading angry comments by the shippers. See the outrage:

Have you heard Bobby Driscoll's story? It's quite sad.

That's something that my wife and I discussed after watching part of it (boys had to go to bed. We'll finish tomorrow) was how this movie's Peter sadly mirrors Driscoll (whose first role was the little white boy in Song of the South.) I hope it was unintentional other wise yikes.

Another movie for the "I will definitely never be bored enough to watch that" pile for me, personally.

I've got the cartoon on DVD; if I wanna watch Rescue Rangers I'll just... watch Rescue Rangers.

Why exactly does this movie pretend Rescue Rangers is the only thing Chip and Dale were in? I get that this particular story wouldn't work if the characters pre-date Rescue Rangers or kept showing up after it ended, and I get that Rescue Rangers may in fact be the most extensive piece of Chip and Dale media. However, this story is so weird and awkward it might as well have been scrapped for a better one, and if you're going to do this weird "cartoon characters are just actors" thing you might benefit from acknowledging the other Chip and Dale things out there.
