“Splinter Forever” by Lloyd Goldfine

We finally have a title for the upcoming 8-page comic book story set in the 2003 universe.

Here’s a link to a podcast where Goldfine and the two artists discuss the project: https://m.soundcloud.com/turtletrack...ersary-special

TMNT 40th Anniversary comic is out July 10th.

This was incredible. The layouts and the colors were awesome. The 2k3 turtles never looked better. So cool seeing these characters again.

My other two favorite stories were “Gang Wars” and “Kraang Among Us”, but those had the disadvantage of being little preludes to a larger story that may never happen. This was just a nice little snapshot of the main characters doing their thing.

Would love to see this creative team make more comics.

Ohhhhh it felt so good to read and see this version explored again. Damn I missed them...

The art style in this story reminds me of LeSean Thomas' style.

Yeah, definitely did kinda look like amped up LeSean.

They don’t say. The story begins in media res.

I don’t really consider this canon at all, which does not detract from how great it was. Ch’rell was so definitively annihilated on screen in Turtles Forever after nearly wiping out countless universes. He’s not gonna follow that up with “kidnap Splinter”. And then he’s just dispatched rather easily and unceremoniously.

It was just an effective way to showcase all of the major players of the show. I guess all confusion could have been eliminated by getting rid of Turtle Hun, but he was fun to see too.

Nice little story. I don't think Splinter had any voice-overs in the show, so I liked that Goldfine took this opportunity to do something a little different. Randolph's art was like a souped-up version of how they looked 20 years ago, which was great. And Lopez's coloring was very recognizable from the DVD covers and the movie posters. All around nice throwback.

Thanks for linking that podcast. The way Goldfine talks, he makes it seem like the movie was underway before they learned it would double as the series finale. Interesting if so.

Fun little story. Yeah I wouldn't consider this "canon" per se, but it was nice to see. Given Hun is a mutant Turtle it obviously has to take place post-Turtles Forever but Ch'rell is erased. Maybe you can say it's a time travel snafu from "The Shredder Wars" where this Ch'rell didn't get erased or something.

But overall it doesn't really matter. It's just a fun story and the art was fantastic.

Off the top of my head, I’m pretty sure Splinter did the voice over intro for “Shredder Strikes Back” part 2 as well as “Reflections”. Maybe a couple others.

Woke up still thinking about this one, if only for how incredible the art was. DAMN. Khary & Emilio still killing it after all these years, but even more so now. So tight. An iconic duo known mostly for their DVD covers & promo art, as 'nines noted, they haven't missed a beat. I had the pleasure of meeting both of them back in 2010, fresh off of the series, they couldn't have been nicer guys. Happy they get to flex this way after so much hard work put into the actual animated series. You could really feel Lloyd's heart & soul in the writing, even if it isn't exactly narrative heavy or anything. Clearly, this series is very dear to him, & channeling that appreciation through Splinter is a fun wink to his position overseeing the boys himself all those years. It's a solid gesture of good will toward this iteration considering how it got the shaft by Viacom for a while there.

If I could get a new TMNT comic based on anything done in the 40th anniversary book, I think it'd be more of this.
