Are you supposed to tip delivery people who bring you your food?

I always tip in a restaurant (but even pre-covid, I only go to a restaurant maybe once every 2 months or on a special occasion), but when you order food to your house like pizza, chinese food, any type of take out or orders from Seamless, Door Dash, Grub hub, etc, do you tip the delivery person?

Definitely. It needn't be much, unless you give them like difficult delivery instructions.

Do delivery people work for minimum wage or just survive on tips like waiters? I honestly don't know.

Both, actually. Most make minimum wage or a little better, but given the amount of driving they do, they mostly depend on their tips. It not only helps pay for the gas they use, but other expenses, as well. Most delivery services have a "milage" or delivery charge, but the driver only gets part of that. And it's usually only a couple of dollars.

Always tip generously to places you go often, the treatment you get makes it worth every penny. Not a place you go often? do whatever you want to do. But don't underestimate the service you can get if they know you're a good tipper.

I'm now waiting for Cubed to bring up a time in his early 20s where someone spit in his food because he didnt properly tip.

‘We at War:' DoorDash Driver Seen on Camera Contaminating Meal Delivered to NYPD Cop

You think that doesn't happen all the time with crowd sourced delivery services? LMAO - I've never ordered from Door Dash or any of those services and I never will. Anyone here think those respectable delivery drivers working those kinds of economy gigs don't do that weird $#!( all the time to everyone, or don't snatch some of your food and so on?

You'd be crazy to think otherwise.

I hardly even trust the workers at the restaurant themselves, tbh. Some of them surely do the job well, but many of them just don't give me that security.

DoorDash drivers def be pinchin fries. I think of that viral video where the DD driver takes a sip of the shake. Such an ass.

They hand you the food after you open the door though, if they were going to spit in your food they'd do it along the way before they even meet you and know they weren't getting a tip.

Usually when you order, the delivery person is someone different each time. I mean when I get Chinese food even from the same restaurant, a different chinaman comes to the door. Or at least I think it's a different Chinese guy each time, a lot of them look alike to me so sometimes I can't tell the difference.

Ummm....

I'm not saying that you have had issues, but see.... that's the trick. You often wouldn't know. And the fairly regular, caught-somehow, behavior of these people indicates that issues are happening routinely and most of the time you wouldn't know it.

Just sayin'..... Ignorance is bliss, dude.

Yes, of course! Most delivery drivers aren't compensated well for driving around. The tips help with that, especially those forced to drive their own cars to do the deliveries. Think of the wear and tear on the car.

Speaking as one who works for a restaurant that does the Uber Eats or Door Dash services, if they DID spit in your food you'd likely know it, as the bags they are served in are supposed to be sealed before leaving the store. So if the seal is broken.... I'd question it, check the food before paying or ask the driver to take it back and bring a new one. That goes for pizza boxes too. The driver does not TOUCH the food directly at ANY point, which is why it is sealed, to show that it hasn't been. Even drinks.
