Do you call them movies, films, or motion pictures?
I'm really partial to "motion picture" myself, I love using the old fashion term. In the wild west they knew them as motion pictures because that's what they were, "moving pictures."

Movies. Most of them aren't even recorded on film anymore.

In English? Movies, it's pretty much what everyone calls them.
In Swedish however, film is the only thing they're called (plural is filmer in case you're wondering). |

I call them movies, Though there are directors out there who still prefer to shoot there movies on film, and still call them that.
Same goes with photos, Some people call it photos, others call it pictures, or images. Photos are a physical object, But everybody shoots them digitally now and still call them photos. |

If I'm going to watch one... "moves." If I'm writing it... "films." It's only "motion pictures" if I'm thinking about the MPAA ratings.

I was born in 1895 so we knew them as motion pictures back then.

Both movie and film.
I find it funny that the guy who talks about the advancement of things likes the "older "term. Although if you truly wanted to use an old term you'd call them talkies. |

I "go to the movies." I "watch a film."
Generally speaking.

Generally, I tend to alternate between "movie" and "film". I don't really use the term "motion picture".
Sometimes, I'll refer to a movie as a "flick". |

In Italy we always refer to them as "film" but I usually use the word "movie" when I'm writing in english as I think it is more common. "Flick" is my second choice, "motion picture" sounds a bit inappropriate in a forum... but I'm not an english native speaker.

In 1979 the first Star Trek movie was called, "The Motion Picture"
So the "Motion Picture" term was still used commonly up through the 80's I believe. |

I used to use Film as this it what was/is commonly used by people around me, I started using Movie more when I was in the US and continued that since. I did revert back to 'going to the cinema' once I got home though.
I don't know anyone who uses 'Motion Picture' though I guess that is where 'going to the pictures' (picture house) came from. I don't hear many use that anymore, maybe older generation. |
