im too old to automatically call it a travesty and start hating. it'll be interesting to see if he can keep it as good as the first 2.

Didn't Clerks 2 kinda wrap all it up and put a bow on it....I mean, where can it go? I agree, can't really call it "EPIC FAIL!" from the get go, but it does seem like a grab at the nostalgia. I really like Randall and Dante, maybe there's a story there somewhere....who knows.

It can't be any worse than Clerks 2.

maybe technically, as there was a huger budget, but as far as story...clerks 1 is best.

as for part 2 kinda finishing it nicely, i agree, but kevin smith always said that clerks 1 was about settling into your 20's and clerks 2 was about settling into your 30's. if he follows that, then it could be assumed that 3'll be about your 40's. maybe about life as a parent and dealing with your business and marriage and all that stuff. these movies are obviously projections of smith's own life at the times he makes em.

plus, there'll of course be all the dick and fart jokes.

like i said, if nothing else, it'll be interesting.

It's surprising and yet not, at the same time.

I don't know that I necessarily am all that interested in seeing a Clerks 3. I don't know that I want to see Dante and Randall with kids and all that.

If he wants to return to the View Askewniverse I'd rather see a slightly less "silly" Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back sequel that might revisit some of the characters -- Dante and Randall included -- in some manner.

hell yeah. i love road movies for one as well as those types of movies with lots of celeb cameos and bit parts. thats why i like the muppets movies. and as satirical of "the hollywood machine" as his point of view usually is (a la J&SBSB)in his flicks, this seems like it'd be the best way for him to go out, but then he's always going on about how these last 3 flicks (cop out, red state and now clerks 3) are his swan song and they're so personal and blah, blah, blah...that i kinda get that a third clerks would be were he wants to end.

Clerks 2 was a schizophrenic mess that wanted to be a guy comedy and a chick flick at the same time. In trying to merge the two he failed at both leaving guys with some funny scenes book ended by unwatchable ones of Dante and his boss having romantic comedy moments. It averaged out to be pretty lame and honestly overly crass. The whole donkey thing was pretty eh...and his stabs at religion while not very offensive to me personally comes off as so immature it actually offends me by making atheists look bad. His other movie Red State is even more guilty of this. Yeah we get it there are crazy right wingers who live in the south and preach "God hates ****" so hard they have an almost cult like mentality about it. But that wasn't enough then he had to take some pretty weak and immature stabs at them. The "punchline" of the film is so lame.

Anyways I don't see a point to a third. He's wrapped up those characters twice now and going for a third makes little sense to me. He said after his hockey movie he was quitting but I guess he wants to leave the same way he started.

Red State was one of the worst films I've ever seen in my life (though there was that moment when you hear the horns, I thought Kevin Smith was going to surprise us/me with a twist and take the movie into a supernatural direction... but nope). And Zack and Miri Make a Porno just felt like old recycled, derivitive material from his other Askewniverse movies. I don't think he really has anything left to say as a filmmaker.

They irony was that was the intention. I saw a stand up with him where he tells the audience that the original ending had the sky open up and four horseman come out. He claims he changed it because it would have been too much but I bet it was due to budgeting. He had enough trouble just getting funds for what he made as it was.

I don't recall Clerks 2 having anything too offensive when it comes to religion, except for maybe the "holy f'n bible" line. Elias is a stereotypical uptight Christian, but the stereotypes aren't any worse than the early days of Ned Flanders.

I haven't seen Red State or Zack and Miri yet.

I guess I put the View Askewiverse in the same category as Star Wars, in that I'm enough of a fan to not mind it being run into the ground, and I hope that just maybe it will be decent.

Welp, you never know when Smith will commit to starting a project or not. I hope he forgets about Moose Jaws because...no!

I damn well hope so.

Yoogerhoosers is IMO easily his worst movie, I'm not excited for the conclusion of the True North trilogy.

Clerks was Smith making a film for his friends. Yoogerhoosers was him making a film for his daughter and her friend (Hollywood rich kids), very small target audience.

I'm confident in Clerks III, I don't get the hate for Clerks II? I personally never saw it as Clerks II but rather Viewaskewniverse VI.

Also It's an easier transition from I to II if you watched the animated series over and over again.
