Jim Lawson original TMNT comic: "Turtles 2030"
It's being included as an incentive if you back his "Box City Wallops" Kickstarter. As long as you back a physical copy, you get a copy of "Turtles 2030" for free. The Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...7McCo3guuNaHvg

An oxymoron, really, isn't it?

That's not bad for the price. Going by other Kickstarters I've seen before, I expected something like a $75 or up tier for something like this
What, is Jim not a fan?

Yeah he wrote it and this is the first time we heard about such a thing. And what's with the title?
I took the 15$ pledge plus shipping to Canada. Is it enough or I need to take the trade for it to work? It's weird that I get more excited about that kind of news than everything in the IDW run nowadays. Andrews comics, last ronin, forever War, ending of Volume 3... |

If there are more than 300 pledgers, do some people not get the book?

I'm sure he would print enough to suit.

Glad to see there is less than $900 to go with the pledge goal! Seems like it really picked up steam after the Fan Comic incentive announcement.

I kinda feel bad that I decided to pledge only because of the "fan comic"

I feel bad that I enjoyed the cheese more than the turkey on my turkey sandwich.

The Turtles fan comics is totally unrelated to the comics he is trying to get funds for. He knows people care about Turtles so he throws random Turtles stuff in the funding campaign. Probably not the most honest move but I still hope him the best. Now that Mirage is no more it would make my heart break hearing he cannot keep drawing and has to find another job.

So yeah, we can speculate about this comic too right?
Leo and giant praying mantis. And "Issue 01". Sooo... more to come? |

He's using our passion for Turtles to get funds for something that is not related to Turtles. I'm not saying he's doing something bad but... it isn't totally right either. But, again, I love him and that's ok.

Thank you, Andrew, for posting this. I'd have been quite upset to find out about this after it was too late to snag one for myself.

Got my copies of Box City Wallops and TMNT Fancomic #1 yesterday. The TMNT comic was longer than I expected: 24 pages, so a full-length issue. I was expecting a mini story, so this was a pleasant surprise.
Plot-wise, it goes with a timeskip until an imaginary "shortly after Volume 4" setting. Whatever plot threads left hanging from Volume 4 are evidently resolved with specifics unaddressed since that's Laird's baby and I assume Lawson didn't want to step on any toes. This is a "fancomic" after all, so it's all just a what-if scenario (though I'll take it over nothing in my head canon). The directions Lawson takes the characters all feel organic and interesting. It reminds me of what he was doing with them in Vol. 2, pulling them apart in different directions that seemed fitting for them at that time in the narrative and their lives. Unfortunately, Vol. 2 got terminated early so we never really got to see how Lawson would have further developed those arcs. This fancomic canon seems like a do-over, albeit skipping ahead in the timeline, and I hope he puts out more of them. I'll back all his campaigns (Box City Wallops was fun, too; don't want to ignore what was the main course of the campaign). I got #50 out of 300, btw. |
