I'm expecting a cartoony vibe for B&R. I'll bet the big take-away from the turtles was "too real, people don't want real!"

Yeah, it's not that hard to quote a post, and then post it in this thread which is the discussion thread for the pictures, so the one for pictures won't be cluttered with 30 pages between the pictures...

I wonder why Gary Anthony Williams has not been seen wearing Bebop's signature sunglasses yet. Maybe he will start wearing the after he mutates.

I dunno if this was posted, but Stephen Amell said he's unpacking. Guess he's finished shooting TMNT 2.

I'm halfway sure some of those birds caused that vehicle to catch on fire. I wonder if he will be involved in any future remakes of Night of the Living Dead. I wanna see some zombies explode in the movie dammit!

What's a zannex, and what does it have to do to keep the picture thread easily accessible for those who want to look at pictures regarding the movie?

I think Commenter means a Xanax which is a pill used for pain and to calm people down.

Whenever I see "Xanax" I think of that scene from The Wolf of Wall Street.
"On a daily basis I consume enough drugs to sedate Manhattan, Long Island, and Queens for a month. I take Quaaludes 10-15 times a day for my "back pain", Adderall to stay focused, Xanax to take the edge off, pot to mellow me out, cocaine to wake me back up again, and morphine... Well, because it's awesome." - Jordan Belfort |

*sigh*
Clearly we are currently in a movie art style period marked by an influence of testosterone levels high enough to kill thirty bull elephants. Someday the film industry will have a renascence that returns to simple, but well done design that doesn't overwhelm the visuals and audience. Maybe. |

There's nothing wrong with realism, except that realism used to be synonymous with authenticity. Now it's become the excuse to redesign CBM fashion, supposedly helping us suspend our disbelief, so that we buy into the story. There's the impossibly silly lie floating around that today's audience is to savvy and smart for primary colors and body hugging spandex.
If you ask me the new duds are compensating a bigger problem - storytelling dysfunction. For all the spectacle, there hasn't been a great CBM storey on screen in a very long time. There's also a lack of unique artistry in the industry today. Looking at concept art, I defy you to tell one person from the next. They all design things the same wa, copying the most successful ideas in an ever increasing feedback loop of ugly. Originality is dying. @indigoearth It's hardly testosterone driven - the majority of realistic trends center around making CBM costumes functional for female heroes, removing anything traditionally feminine about them, for a more unisex, comfortable, often militaristic vibe. Why a fictional SUPER person needs to be comfortable is beyond me, but anyways.... It's the Nolan effect. Everyone thinks they should borrow from his realistic approach, because that's what fans want. Last edited by Commenter 42; 07-06-2015 at 12:41 AM. |

Here's the thing: everyone's confusing realism and grit. A realistic movie doesn't necessarily have to be dark, serious, and brooding. Think of Captain America: TWS. Its tone WAS pretty realistic, and up until the very end, the action scenes were pretty realistic, too. You can have a dark TMNT movie because it works with TMNT, due to the fact that TMNT started off as a darker franchise. You could also have a lighthearted movie because that also works with the franchise.
However, you CANNOT have a movie which is darker in tone for the first 40 minutes and then shifts into some goofy shitfest in the next 40 minutes. While I'll take that goofy shitfest over the darker half of that movie any day due to the fact that there are actually Turtles in it, it just makes that 40 minute dark tone period feel incredibly useless and brings down the movie. |
