At least the 2012 series crossovers gave the 1987 characters more faithful portrayals. And it was already confirmed that the movie is not a crossover with a previous iteration of the Ninja Turtles.

Ehhh... 2012 was definitely kinder than Turtles Forever, but it still started off making them out to be rather inept and dumb.

People doing those crossovers seem to keep confusing the goofy, kiddie nature of the FW show with the actual behavior of those Turtles in it. The characters had their goofy moments intended for comedy, but they do more often play it straight for most of the fight scenes. The show may have intended some of their tactics to be humorous, but much of the time the Turtles themselves play it straight like it isn't.

Had the Netflix thing actually been a crossover, it could have been the FW Turtles chance to stand there looking at the Rise Turtles, questioning their priorities, etc. Not that the makers of it would have allowed their own Turtles to look like goobers (in comparison), so the FW will always have the disadvantaged short stick that they never got prior Turtles to make fun off... because making fun of the Mirage set would probably be unwise and get your ass beat. lol

The first 2012 crossover handled the 87 turtles really well, the second crossover? they made most of the same mistakes Turtles Forever did.

I don't know maybe I'm making expectations that will lead to disappointment but I feel that this movie will have something that will make non-fans want to check it out, whether a crossover or some crazy idea that will get blogs talking about it. The animation is superb and all it needed from casuals was to check it out to perhaps change their opinion. I like to think they envisioned this movie as a way to do that so they thought of an amazing idea which we have not heard about just yet. The premise was for people to check the show out but clearly it's too late for that but the movie might change the opinion of many towards the show.

Or maybe it's just a generic "ok" but nothing special movie that only fans of Rise will like.

There were people that were mildly entertained by the Teen Titans Go movie but I doubt that convinced them to watch the show. I don't see this movie changing any perspectives of the show. Especially between how long ago the series finale aired and whenever this movie's releasing.

Things have been popping up on it being released in 2022 in the Netflix line up, should I expect any of this to be true?

I think we are dealing with some fallout of the Paramount merger here. Nickelodeon had a deal with Netflix to distribute new movies based on their properties before the merger which is what this was a part of, but in between then and the intended release date, Viacom and CBS merged to form the current version of Paramount who intend to release everything on Paramount+ (formerly CBS All-Access). The movie probably already exists in a distributable form but I think Paramount is waiting for the Nickelodeon/Netflix deal to expire just so they can release it on Paramount+ instead.

Nah, that wouldn't make any sense. Why would Nick make a deal with Nickelodeon where Netflix puts up money to stream a movie exclusively for a period but then Netflix never actually gets to put it up at all just because Nickelodeon waits past a certain date to give it to them?

And I'm assuming money had to have exchanged hands and it wouldn't have been Nickelodeon was paying Netflix. Netflix would have paid something for an exclusive showing, possibly even for development.
