FB/IG hacked or crashed
So... it started around 1045 eastern time/usa when they started chugging slowly and then full on just couldn't access anything... and it appears 1.5 million users info is up for sale somewhere on the web.
How's everyone feeling about their personal data being out there? As far as whatever you share with social media anyways... For me, its not that big a deal cuz it was a brand new account after fascistbook deleted my old one, after I was basically suspended for 6 months straight... over a d@mn fine meme (one they suspended me for repeatedly even though no one else could see it & they always unlocked me on appeal anyways...) Not too fun with one company owning such a chunk of the interwebs, eh? |

Eh, its not like Facebook uses this information for nefarious stuff or gives / sells it for the highest bidder themselves.
So, basically no difference. |

Lol. The number of spam calls & tonnage of spam emails I got after having to give them my cell for my old acct because I adminned a page with 80,000+ fans was insane... they sell every bit of info shared. Likely including those nudes people send.

Meh, I stopped using it much anyhow other than a basic messages page when it got so bloated and slow with my old browser. I never shared much personal info with them. They don't even have my last name since I used my middle in its place. Anyone trying to buy my data will largely be wasting their money.
My mom spends plenty of time scrolling FB though. Explains why she was actually outside when I got home. |

You mean this?
https://edition.cnn.com/2021/10/03/t...tes/index.html The same old debate again, just moving focus to social media this time. My only issues with social media is when people refuse to talk and socialize because of social media (but I would never call for a ban), or worse: when people use it in traffic (that should be banned). |

Looks like the outage or whatever is finally starting to end. Also I just succeeded in logging onto my Facebook and Instagram accounts after hours of being unable to.

Yeah, I can't tell if he's being ironic or just that gullible.

I find it funny how a ton of people were stressing out about Facebook and Instagram being down for several hours.
Also, it surprised me because I thought less and less people used Facebook nowadays. I thought it was something people just kept for the chat feature and to remember other people's birthdays anymore. My feed rarely shows anything by my friends anymore. Only like 4 of them seem to actively post anymore. The rest of my feed consists of ads and news articles. So really, why were so many people unable to function without Facebook for one day? Instagram? That's a place to check out hot women in bikinis. I can see why people would be annoyed by it being down the whole day... but there's plenty of other places on the Internet providing that kind of content. |

The timing of this with the Facebook "whistleblower" doing her piece is pretty suspect.

I don't even get on Fb much, but it irked me for a while because I play a couple of app games that tie their player accounts to it, and it meant I couldn't get into my game account. The only way I could play was as a guest, which meant starting over! F*** that noise! Had to wait until it was back up again to get my game account back up. (The one downside of linking your game to any social media server. If that goes down, so does your game!)

Apparently Facebook being down cost more than a few billions for global economy.
Interesting. If the world goes down to the shitter due to some social network falling down, imagine what'd happen if Internet goes down as a whole. Just for a few days. It'd be amusing, to say the least. |
