The writers who created Krang (based on the utrom design) made him a brain because of pure ignorance. They didn't read the comic books, and they probably never looked in an anatomy book. It was admittedly his brain which acted as his head. In "INVASION OF THE KRANGAZOIDS", his clones just grew bodies with exoskeletons, suggesting their race is evolved from insects. But, yeah. His 'brain' obviously involves jaws, eye-sockets and muscle, like a skinless octopus.

It does kind of make me wonder. Was it always planned for Bishop to be an utrom in the Nick series? Or did someone midway through the series run realize that the Kraang robots bore a strong resemblance to Bishop in the 4Kids series, so they just rolled with it.
