Why was Shredder referred to as "Cyber Shredder" in SNES Tournament Fighters game?

I've always wondered why in the 1993 game he was called Cyber Shredder. There was no mention in the manual and no Cyber Shredder at that time.

The only Cyber Shredder I can recall is the one from 4kids cartoon and that was almost 15 years after the TF game came out.

Thoughts?

The in-universe explanation might very well be that Shredder died before the 16-bit TF games take place (he's completely absent in the Sega version). Thus, the Cyber-Shredders seen in TF and TMNT3 (Game Boy) were all clones.

The fan-game fighter TMNTxJL went with that theory that his big tumble at the end of Turtles in Time/Hyperstone Heist was a fatal finale:

And because I assist with that project, it's canon in my mind!

It was the 90's and adding "Cyber" to every name made it sound cooler. When I was a kid I thought Shredder enchanced himself with cybernetic parts and I thought it was cool.

That always really bothered me as a kid. I don't think the manual even bothered to explain it at all.

I'm guessing that the Real-Life reason was "It just sounds cool." But I can also believe the whole "He died at the end of Turtles In Time and this is some kinda clone" thing, sure.

I real like how the videogame TMNT series for the classic games is like it's own universe. It's like a mix of the original cartoon and Playmates toys and Konami spun their own little universe out of it.

In that game you fight Shredder twice. I've always assumed he's the regular Shredder during the first fight and then he's brought back from death as a cyber version for the second match.

Are you implying all the Konami games are in one continuity? because I think that's what you're doing and I'm glad I'm not the only one who has gone through the trouble to piece the timeline.

You know for some reason it never occurred to me I use Cyber in my username. Been literally 20 years since I had this username on other forums so it doesn't even register in my mind anymore.

Did he look any different graphically?

No, actually. Maybe he has a couple of new moves the second time.
