Turtles in Time or Hyperstone Heist?
Which was the better game: Turtles in Time for the SNES, or Hyperstone Heist for the Genesis?

In terms of gameplay, they were virtually the same, but let's face it - the SNES version of Turtles in Time is even now the standard by which all TMNT games are judged. Especially in terms of music, it can't be beaten. Hyperstone Heist, they say, is more challenging, and I can see where they're coming from. As fate would have it, I only have a SEGA Genesis between the two main 16-bit consoles, so I've been playing Hyperstone Heist more than Turtles in Time, lately.

Having played both I'd have to go with Turtles in Time.

As gorgeous as Genesis games could be, it could never match the crispness of the SNES's animations.

Fact: both of these games are two of the best TMNT games to grace home consoles. But I have to say that I enjoy Turtles in Time better. I love some of the boss fights from Hyperstone, the fact that they include Tatsu is AWESOME! But like others have said, Time just feels crisper. Mix that with the fact that you could hurl Foot Soldiers out of the tv makes Turtles in Time the winner.

Having never played Hyperstone Heist by watching the videos, I enjoy Turtles In Time better. Having only four levels makes the storyline too short in HH, and leaves you with only a few bosses. Having the concept of three acts (Present, Past, and Future) helps makes Turtles In Time more interesting, and not just for throwing Foot Soldiers at Shredder's camera in the Technodrome! You can also adjust the difficulty too in TMNT IV to pace yourself.

I never understood why people thought the Genesis game was harder. As a kid, I owned that one exclusively and played it quite a bit. The boss patterns are much simpler than those found in the SNES counterpart and the Foot Soldiers are fairly passive compared to the AI in the NES games.

The lack of the Foot Soldier screen throw was really perplexing, however. Contrary to prevailing internet opinion, that had nothing tdo do with Mode 7. It must have just been Konami's lazy decision not to include a couple of extra Foot Soldier sprites to create that effect.

I always liked both games equally. I'm gonna vote for Hyperstone Heist though just because I know it's not going to get as much love as In Time.

Here's a pretty good comparison Sega-16 did a while back:
http://www.sega-16.com/2010/01/side-...nesis-vs-snes/ Even though it's a Sega fan-site, they rightfully gave the advantage to Turtles in Time, but with a fair breakdown of the differences and relative strengths of each game.

As much of a SEGA fanboy as I am...
Turtles in Time. It just has: Better animations. Better instrumentations of the songs The better villain roster (Slash, Tokka, Razhar > Tatsu, Rocksteady 2) Off screening foot soldiers move. And it's time-travelling aspect is just a lot more epic. I love Hypestone Heist, though. It's really addictive, but Turtles in Time is hands down just the superior game. Hyperstone Heist however can be the 2nd best Turtles game of all time. What I like, however, about hyperstone heist, is the running by pressing a button mechanic. Not hating on the double-tapping, but it just felt better to me. Also, who here is a fan of the "COMIC" style for Turtle colors? |

Yeah, I always set the colors to COMIC mode before I played... even though the Turtles never looked like that in any of their comics available at the time. They might as well just called it "TOYS" but I guess "Comic" sounded a lot more gritty!
