So for those who don't know, IDW's My Little Pony comic is ending. Why is this relevant? Well it's ending at its 102nd issue, meaning it was currently one of IDW's longest running comics after TMNT:

They're doing a 6 issue mini after where they crossover with the first series, but then that seems to be it.

Some long running IDW comics have been ending lately, hopefully TMNT doesn't conclude anytime soon.

The bronies out there < TMNT fans. In terms of numbers. At least that's my general feeling. Although bronies actually have big conventions all over the country while the TMNT fans have had 0 for decades.

Kinda makes a person think, doesn't it?

Stuff like MLP or Masters of the Universe, which most people around these parts would dismiss and say aren't popular or relevant, have these annual conventions (in MLP's case, more than one, all aimed at different segments of the fanbase) and their fanbases are larger and more proactive than one might think.

Meanwhile, TMNT, this thing that was once a big cultural juggernaut, doesn't have its own convention and its "fanbase" is 99% comprised of people on social media saying "I remember that!"

Seeing the stuff that He-Man fans get every year for Power-Con is pretty eye-opening. That fanbase absolutely sh*ts on this one, no contest. They're much more engaged, devoted, and proactive.

People don't like to hear it, but TMNT circa 2021 simply isn't "popular" anymore. Or at the absolute least, the "fandom" is beyond apathetic. Hard to blame them with so little to be excited about, but still. Fans of other properties like MOTU and Ghostbusters manage to keep things alive even during "dead" years.

Maybe what TMNT needs is someone with "connections" to be the equivalent of what Val Staples has been for the He-Man fandom. How's about it, Andrew? You're the one with everybody's phone number; if anyone's gonna start an annual Turtle-Con it's pretty much You or Nobody, I figure.

.
Yeah. That’s pretty much it. There isn’t, and hasn’t been, a pure singular fan voice for TMNT like there was for motu. There were a few diehard and dedicated fans that set out to create THE place for motu online (he-man.org) and then later a convention. Tmnt needed Someone willing to put up their own capital etc. and not be afraid to fail or start super small. I have been to every powercon and those first two or so were def small events cobbled together by fans.

The closest we got so far to a tmnt con was the year they included tmnt at powercon and I was hoping they’d have continued with it. I know they toyed with the idea to spin powercon out into a tmnt con as well but then when they tried to move powercon to NY and it failed they lost a ton of money and momentum to do that. Plus Val was looking for a Tmnt fan to kind of help Shepard that but couldn’t find anyone.

True, but passion without a plan leads to nothing. She was passionate but not a person who wanted to create a con or anything like that.
