It sounds legit to me. But there are a LOT of typos and pretty obvious mistakes in that. The kind you might make if you were transcribing something you're reading into a Word document, or something.

I can buy Leo having a chip on his shoulder but I'm not a fan of him being supremely arrogant.
Also the whole "He needs Them more than they need Him" thing. That's... that's actually the inverse of how their dynamic usually works. These are definitely some bad stereotypes masquerading as "characters". I can see the "illusion" of depth they're trying to project into each of them, but... doesn't quite wash. Raph "with his hands in his pockets"... oh, GREAT, we're gonna get them wearing People Clothes again. Barf. Yeah, I don't really like any of this, to be blunt. It comes off as legit to me, because that reads exactly like what a room full of Hollywood hacks trying to "reinvent" these characters would come up with.

I've listened to Rogen speak quite a bit and it does read "in his voice" very much.

And more "You can tell they're Teenagers because they'll be dressing in Teenage People Clothes" stuff.
"Yay."

I know, right? It's either ignorance or being too lazy to proofread, and both of those things, where I sit, are inexcusable.
I mean, I know that nowadays it's far more rare to find an article where there AREN'T any typos or spelling errors, but... I refuse to just roll over and go along with it. STANDARDS, people.

I don't even know what to think, it sounds like nonsense... it aught to be nonsense... but lord knows Nick & Co. are perfectly capable of nonsense.

Though I can't decide if they mean pockets literately or just figuratively. All killer no filler? Eegh. Can we just... not? Leo being the serious guy is good. But that line someone thought was clever sounds more like a wannabe serial killer, not the sometimes morally conflicted boy scout who at times even sees the better potential in an enemy if they'd only change their ways. Those character descriptions sound awful. Also I loath it whenever press releases about new versions of TMNT say they are going to focus on the teenage aspect of the characters. It's usually an excuse to show them skate boarding and acting obnoxious. The turtles being teenagers is the least relevant part the characters. TMNT is not a 'coming of age' story in any of its iterations.

I suspect it'll be like a pie chart with like... 50% committed to the Teenage, 25% to the ninja, and the rest in service of a plot that will probably try to tug at the heartstrings in the manner of something between your average Pixar movie and a Judd Apatow movie.

It kind of is, if you take TMNT Vol. 1, #1-11, #19-21, and #48-62 as an overall arc. That is definitely a "coming of age" story, or at least it ends up being during CAW.

After that they battle robots, find out a previously unknown aspect to their origin and go to other planets. None of that affects the characters in any meaningful way. Focusing on the Vol. 1 Foot related stories the turtles (particularly Leo) suffer their first defeat and go on a journey to build their confidence back to the point they take on Shredder and the Foot a third time and win. That's not really a coming of age story. I would argue neither is City At War, I mean it's kinda suggested that perpetuating their war with the Foot out of a sense of vengeance, honour or simply because their bad guys is a quaint childish notion but I'm not sure that's a huge theme of the story. |

The entire farmhouse sequence and decision to man up and return to New York without Splinter is a direct example of the coming of age elements....

Characters go on emotional journeys but we don't always say they are coming of age. I feel if the turtles were not teenagers no one would think the Mirage turtles vs Foot story as a coming of age one. The turtles don't really 'man up' in Return To New York. Raphael forces them to follow him and strangely Splinter isn't even mentioned or even featured in the story. It's all about their own personal honour. |

I'm leery to say either way whether the Rogen version will have Turtles doing legit ninja stuff and killing bad guys or if it'll just be a glorified "Kung Fu Panda" level of violence. He could deliver the goods.

That's just the type of silly attempt at appearing vaguely realistic derail that makes me think it is fake - "all killer, no filler." That's rich. Good for a chuckle.
In other words, I don't think this is real. But I'm resigning myself to the fact that the movie could be something like this. |
