The TMNT franchise has shown that Bebop/Rocksteady aren't inherently evil, just a bunch of criminal thugs who got mutated and thought they were doing the right thing working for Shredder.

Do you think Bebop and Rocksteady being heroes will be further explored in future TMNT incarnations?

I think that will be Andrew's worst nightmare

But I am not opposed to the concept, think it has potential to be done well.

That was to win J. Gordon Hungerdunger's Hoboken diamond.

While they're not exactly heroes in their Micro or Destroy Everything (I mean c'mon, just listen to that title), I must admit they're somewhat more compelling as protagonists than antagonists. There's something charming in what's essentially Beavis and Butt-Head as Hulks. Then again, it does seem like something that would wear out it's welcome quickly.

I think you could have a really entertaining Flowers for Algernon type of story with these guys.

Bebop/Rocksteady also technically "turned good" in the Archie comics when they decided to live peacefully on that paradise planet in Dimension X with other animals.

It almost seems to me like Bebop/Rocksteady are becoming the next "Harley Quinn" in that they're becoming anti-heroes in the modern age.

My favourite portrayal of Bebop and Rocksteady was as dumb but unstoppable psychopathic juggernauts like in season 1 of the Original Cartoon.

That's what they are in the IDW comics.

In IDW they're a mix of being strong/competent fighters but also a bit dumb and endearing.

They're a pretty good mix and I recommend you check it out someday.

I haven't checked out the IDW comics but I definetly plan to after hearing about it more, especially to see how they handle the reincarnation origin story, General Krang, Ch'rell, Bebop and Rocksteady etc.

Although my favourite version of Bebop and Rocksteady are the 80s ones, I'm surprised by how unique and great the Nick versions were when it could've gone wrong. Making one a Patriotic Russian and the other a Tron type thief was pure genius.

I don't know if they'd ever be full heroes. Similar to Catwoman and Harley, they still like to steal things and whatnot.

The Nick versions were interesting. I like how they became partners during their ordeal, seeing that before Steranko was the guy that hired Anton to steal for him, with the usual threats if he were to fail. That's interesting because if say, Shredder and Xever got mutated together instead of Bradford, there's no way Shredder would become his partner, he'd still be bossing him around and whatnot.

Yes, it was probably a way of writing them out of the series.

It seems to me Bebop/Rocksteady are going in the direction of Harley Quinn from Batman. Characters who start off as villains, but then because of how popular they are the writers make them into anti-heroes and they become stars in their own right.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Bebop/Rocksteady as friends/rivals to the Turtles in future incarnations, sort of how Harley is to Batman.

Sure, why not? What's a smashed shell and a dead Donatello between friends?

Bebop/Rocksteady were already portrayed as main characters in that arc.

I wonder when IDW will bring them back as we haven't seen them in a while, they're still on their roadtrip back to New York right? It doesn't seem like they'll be in that Triceraton arc either, so I wonder when they'll show up again.

But who will Shredder order around to smash the toitles?... Oh right, Karai, Hun, Bludgeon, Koya, Tokka, Rahzar, Dogpund, Fishface, Tiger Claw, etc. I forgot for a brief moment that they were infinitely replaceable.

And none of those characters really became all that popular (not counting Karai or Hun who aren't mutants), besides maybe Rahzar and that's only nostalgia from old fans. Although young kids will probably have nostalgia for Tiger Claw and Fishface when they get older.

And Bludgeon/Koya were only with Shredder a short time, they're more like Karai's minions than his.
