The problem is people have to stop considering white as some sort of default blank slate, when no, Caucasian is a race too. Noone calls the turtles white but if a black person voices a turtle and say 'sup dawg' everyone will be quick to say 'oh that turtle is black'.

Oh these guys are mutants and should not have a race. Therefore let's have them voiced by white guys and gave them talk and act white.

I see the characters as what they supposed to be rather than who the VA is.

Exactly! People don’t consider Bart Simpson a female because of Nancy Cartwright. Omg I don’t want to even think about the backlash if a female VA got cast as one of the four turtles.

I don't think there would be much backlash unless the turtle sounds very out of place.

Other characters are also voiced by people of the other sex, for e.g. Ash Ketchum is voiced by a woman.

as well it should be. race is one thing. gender is different. you wouldn't cast a guy to play april..it'd sound ridiculous. Imagine if she sounded like Jimmy fallon? (ey, yo, how's it going? I like you, do you like me? everythings great! #LLSfergusonfallonmode)

mostly women are cast as guy characters only for kid characters.

Careful with the G word, you don't want to invite the butthurt wrath of keyboard warriors.

And True, I could only see a woman cast for say, a Greg Cipes-esque Mikey or a very young Casey Jones, unless they have the vocal range for deep male characters and vice versa.

Jimmy Fallon would not work IMO but that’s hilarious to think about. Nickelodeon would just cast a younger VA for April. Lots of younger guys can be mistaken for girls.

Dan Mintz does a really great job as Tina Belcher, so I think it's more than possible for a grown man to voice a teenage girl. You can have a young boy play a female character, but there's no guarantee that his voice won't change as he gets older.

Kind of why castratos were such a big deal way back in the day.

If you listened to the voice actor clips, this Raph sounds black obviously because the VA is. So you still have that type of voice there, so it'll be in everyones mind when they hear Raph speak. Probably for Mikey too but we need to hear more sound clips first.

In a way I think it's a good thing. 3 of the main characters are voiced by black actors this time, Raph, Mike and April, while Leo and Don are white guys, so it's a nice mix.

I think that the show will probably be animated in flash, ala The Loud House and/or Star vs. The Forces of Evil (Season one).

I wouldn't mind it, though.

They mentioned it's traditionally animated not flash.

I wouldn't mind flash animated if it were a TTGo esque show but it's not.

The trend recently has been doing the linework hand drawn, and then having it finalized digitally on a program like OpenToonz, especially in shows where there's a lot of action sequences involved.

How... promo art is generally created to have some kind of impact and may not represent the average scene. And can't get any sense of the fluidity of the actual animation, the style of movement and quirks about it, etc.

The two promo arts have the same art style as the individual images for the Turtles, April and Splinter we got. Just imagine those in motion and it'll probably be what it's like.

I would guess that they will probably do everything on graphics tablets. It's traditional in so far as they still draw by hand, just not on paper. A lot of people call it 'tradigital' animation.

You can still draw every frame this way, so it doesn't have to look like that cheesy 2D rigged animation, but you get all of the benefits of a digital workflow.
