You can tell that apology is fake. Of course he hasn't learned from his mistakes, he'll continue to do it. He's only sorry because he got caught! |

All of those are legitimate concerns.
The best way to quelch that is to move forward with one's life and commit that sin no more. When you've wronged people they are by no means required to accept your apology. But that apology must be offered in good faith first, and then followed up by actually not participating in the wrongful behavior. Apologizing does not grant one a magically clean slate. It's not a blanket absolution. It's merely the acknowledgement that you have wronged another person or party, and the assurance that moving forward this wrong will not be repeated because a lesson previously unknown or ignored has been learned/acknowledged. Is this not common knowledge? Actually, given how few people seem to be able to appropriately apologize for things, maybe it isn't common knowledge.

The thing is it's not a "change of the old guard" like Plastron mentioned in another thread, but sort of a "fad" at this point and both the extreme left and right are encouraging it.
And yes the media and everyone takes it as a guilty verdict before anything can be proven. Don't take my "Fad" comment as if these things don't happen. Sexual harassment is a huge problem but the "guilty" as soon as someone mentions it is an absolute awful stand to take as I've read plenty of weak #metoo posts that get support and this will backfire and cause more harm to the cause than good. As for those who "choose" not to believe, when it comes to celebrities of any kind it's most likely true. The public backlash is not sustainable since I can assure you most celebrities are likely guilty of this or other horrible stuff. You can't idolize celebrities as your heroes or you'll only be disappointed. But "XXXXX" is actually good! I doubt it, everyone has dirt, even if you look at yourself I"m sure there's things you're not proud of and would hold much more weight if you were famous. |

I'm not saying apologies make up for what was done, they don't. I just stated that you can't make a "good" apology and it seems the best situation is just to remain silent.
Me personally? I'd rather see an apology even if not heartfelt, and as a victim I would learn to move on from it and let things go because nothing will ever make it right so why dwell on it. |

So the best apology is a non-existent apology.
I can't say that I agree with that logic.

I don't agree with it either, read my post. PR wise it's clearly the best move.

Here is what Anna Paquin had to say about the accusation made against Ratner by Ellen Page.

He's the only one to have been able to shrug the accusations off so easily and yet the worst offender.

Oh, definitely. I imagine the reason is because his crap already came to light before this, same as why Cosby isn't on it.

Does it though?
Previously Gadot didn't have enough clout to do much of anything. Now she's got a platform from which to make such demands. Don't let ideological purity get in the way of actually achieving change.

Get over What Affleck did already he apologized and Affleck would follow the lead of his friend Kevin Smith and donate the residuals of any of his Weinstein-backed films to Film Independent or to RAINN, an anti-sexual assault organization that runs the National Sexual Assault hotline.

If she really wants to achieve change, she should stop working with everyone that's ever been accused of taking advantage of people, whether through casting-couching and/or sexual misconduct (rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, etc.) If she's not going to support Brett Ratner, she should stop collaborating with people like Joss Whedon and Ben Affleck as well. It's not "ideological purity"; it's owning up to your values and morals. It's making sure that change really does occur. Publicly denounce them, then stop working with them. That sounds horrible. I'm so sorry about the circumstances surrounding your friend, Krutch.
I wish for her well-being and recovery. |

Yeah I find that one hard to swallow. For one thing he came out as gay years ago so it would seem that any women making these allegations are barking up the wrong tree. And as for guys- isn't he in a long term relationship? (Not saying it negates the possibility xompketely but would certainly make it less likely.)
