Yeah, I thought he was going to sing "Let It Go" or something but he didn't.

Still, it should be great to have the Two Grumpy Grandpa Doctors together for Christmas.

A special concert is being held prior to the finale, with a live Q and A streamed live on Youtube afterwards with Mackie and Moffat

Sir Derek Jacobi is back in a new Master-led spin-off series for Big Finish...and he's been rechristened The War Master as his adventures take place during the time war and before he fled to the end of the universe

Quote:
Peoples of the universe, please attend carefully… Sir Derek Jacobi is reprising his iconic role as the War Master for Big Finish Productions!

Today Big Finish can announce the return of Sir Derek Jacobi as the Master, ten years to the day after his first appearance in the Doctor Who episode, Utopia.

“His incarnation is very much the ‘Hannibal Lecter’ of Time Lords - intelligent, charming, but thoroughly ruthless - we had a lot of fun in studio bringing the War Master back to life,” explains producer and director Scott Handcock, “It’s been a gift of a project, and we can’t wait for listeners to hear it!”

“I didn’t expect to come back to it all these years later,” says Sir Derek, “but I was thrilled to be remembered. The plots in all these episodes have been very good indeed, very interesting, very dramatic, and beautifully written. The whole process has been a delight!”

Doctor Who: The War Master follows the exploits of the Doctor’s arch-enemy during the course of the devastating Time War, featuring four stories from acclaimed Doctor Who writers Nicholas Briggs (also script editor of the series), James Goss and Guy Adams, as well as new writing talent from Janine H Jones.

1. Beneath the Viscoid by Nicholas Briggs

On the ocean planet Gardezza, deep beneath the Viscoid, a mysterious capsule is recovered from the Time War, and an equally mysterious stranger found within. The Doctor’s reputation precedes him, even here… but can he be trusted?

2. The Good Master by Janine H Jones

The Time War rages around Arcking - a planet serving as a sanctuary for the sick and injured. But Arcking is protected by a mysterious, powerful force: a force the Master will stop at nothing to harness… even if time itself is against him.

3. The Sky Man by James Goss

When his new companion decides to save a planet, the Master indulges this most futile of requests. Materialising on a primitive, agrarian world, both the strangers quickly find their place in it… until fallout from the War invades their happy paradise.

4. The Heavenly Paradigm by Guy Adams

With his plans approaching fruition, the Master travels to Stamford Bridge in the 1970s: a location he believes might hold the key to his success. But what terrible secret lurks under the stairs of No. 24 Marigold Lane? And what sacrifices will the Master make in the name of ultimate victory?

Yeah, this one was a bit dull I'm afraid. I liked bits of it here and there [I'm Scottish, so I did find some jokes funny]

The explanation for the Crows, lack of any real lingering monster prescensce, the PC Roman Legion, and the continuity cofuffle with the Marie Celeste really brought this one down a peg or four.

Anyone get the feeling The Doctor and Missy interactions were making up for a very underlength script?

I'm going to post the highlight of the episode...the trailer for next week

I'm in the middle of rewatching Nuwho and man, there were some really bad episodes.

Can someone help me understand what the Doctor was trying to do in that Agatha Christie episode? He laces the soup with pesticide to do what exactly? If everyone has it, than wouldn't the Vespiform ignore ALL of the suspects?

This is bothering me a lot.

I was a massive RTD apologist back in the day, but I think that was the first episode of his era that I objectively loathed. Don't remember much about it either.

Well, aside from End of Time, I wrapped up the RDT era. It's a lot better than I remembered, but Seasons 4 and sort of 1 are the only seasons that sort of resemble a complete package.

I've ranked every episode btw, for my enjoyment.

ABSOLUTE BEST
-Human Nature/Family of Blood
-Midnight

AMAZING
-Fathers Day
-The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
-The Parting of Ways
-The Girl in the Fireplace
-Rise of the Cybermen
-The Satan Pit
-Army of Ghosts/Doomsday
-Blink
-Utopia (might've gotten an absolute best if it weren't for that sh*tty finale that followed it)
-The Fires of Pompeii
-Silence in the Library/Forrest of the Dead
-Turn Left
-The Stolen Earth/Journey's End
-The Waters of Mars

GREAT
-Dalek
-Bad Wolf
-School Reunion
-Age of Steel
-The Impossible Planet
-Gridlock
-Planet of the Ood
-Planet of the Dead

Average
-End of the World
-The Unquiet Dead
-Boom Town
-Tooth and Claw
-Smith and Jones
-The Shakespeare Code
-42 (<- and the winner for "most forgettable story of all time goes to)
-Partners in Crime
-The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky
-The Unicorn and the Wasp
-The Next Doctor

Below Average
-Rose
-Aliens of London/WW3
-The Christmas Invasion
-New Earth
-The Idiot's Lantern
-The Runaway Bride
-Smith and Jones
-Evolution of the Daleks
-The Doctor's Daughter

What the F*ck (In Order of """Best""" to Worst)
-The Long Game
-Voyage of the Damned
-Daleks in Manhatten
-Love and Monsters
-Sound of Drums/The Last of the Time Lords
-Fear Her

End of Time can't even be classified. I forgot how f*cking ridiculous and over the top The Master is in this. Am I supposed to be laughing? Because I don't think I ever laughed as hard as I have when The Master changes everyone....into him?

Pompeii is under my personal "What the F***". And it was even my first Doctor Who episode! It was for my Latin class, and we watched it because of how they used the characters from the Cambridge Latin books.

They daughter would never have had her own name; she would have been named Caecilia.

I desperately wish Daleks in Manhattan could have been great. The Cult of Skaro could have been used so much more than they were. And they could have saved themselves so much trouble with the mutated Dalek Sec so they could use him more without deafening the actor with the motorized tentacles.
But it SUCKED. It sucked so much! They had so many great ideas to jump from, but they didn't make it!

And yeah, Fear Her was pretty terrible . Guys, stop connecting nursery songs and rhymes with scary things. I mean "Wow, do you have any other edgy quotes from Hot Topic"?

Isn't BBC pidgeonholed into using the Daleks once a season to keep the rights? Every appearance they make lessens their impact. Watching Doomsday for the first time was a trip when the Cult of Skaro appeared out of the Genesis Arc. It's probably the show's best twist aside from the ending of Utopia.

Now its like- I wonder how they'll shoe in the Daleks this time around.

Oh MAN the stuff with needing rights to use Daleks is a load of bull.

I'm on the "Terry Nation sucks" boat in regards to them.

The beard is back! THE BEARD IS BACK!!!

It's the quintessential Master trait and I was so unhappy that he was just a White Blonde Pretty Boy™ without it.

Oh boy.

Let's hope he's handled better than he was in the RTD era. Please, no "DINNER TIME" or blasting pop songs during his takeover of earth.

I completely forgot about that bit...honestly, I remember "Toxic" being played to commemorate Earth before being overcome by the sun better.
