Muppet Babies reboot

Currently in pre-production stages for Disney Jr channel. Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, and Animal are all confirmed as well as Nanny oh excuse me, Miiss Nanny (real name apparantly Nancette...) and a new character, a female sheep named Bobbi Baba. *sighs* I suppose this was inevitable...

It seems that in this one they're slightly older than in the original. Kermit is listed as being 4 while Bobbi is 6. In the original series they were roughly 1 - 3 with Animal and Robin being the infants.

They could still pop up. Just no bio info on them yet. Show probably won't air for a couple years anyways since they're only in pre-production.

Production has officially begun today according to Disney Junior.

Quote:
“We are proud, and a little bit giddy, to begin production on our new version of the much-loved ‘Muppet Babies,'” said Nancy Kanter, executive vice president, original programming and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide. “Parents will delight in seeing their favorite Muppets in the mixed animation style they remember from the original series, and kids will be introduced to this warm and zany world made just right for the Disney Junior audience.”

The new, CG-animated revival will, like the original, be geared toward children ages 4-7 and feature two 11-minute adventures per episode. The show will be a co-production between Disney Junior, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media’s Content & Media group, and The Muppets Studio.

Tom Warburton (“The 7D”) will executive produce the series with Eric Shaw (“SpongeBob SquarePants”) serving as story editor.

“Bringing ‘Muppet Babies’ to Disney Junior is a wonderful opportunity to reach a new generation of viewers and to creatively build on the innovative original series,” said Debbie McClellan, vice president, the Muppets Studio. “We hope to engage and delight the nostalgic fans while also entertaining new kids, parents and diverse audiences through heart and humor as only the Muppets can deliver.”
This was probably a lot of children's first introduction to the Muppets franchise. I know it was for me. Many of my friends and acquaintances have children now and I think they'll love this. Hopefully, they'll bring back the original cast, but we'll just have to wait and see. From what I remember the Ducktales reboot isn't bringing back the original cast.

This is in no way for me but I think it could be cool once I saw the CG is trying to emulate the "muppets" in real life so it actually looks awesome. I'm sure all the things of the original will be in it in one way or another.

Should be cute. I wonder if they'll include as much material from other movies and stuff. Obviously they can use Disney material.

I'm suprised, to be honest. You'd think that Disney would've just given up on the Muppets after the double-whammy of a failed movie and TV show, but it looks like the signs are pointing to no.

Disney never lets anything die. Anything.
Unless it's Brer Rabbit.

It's pre-school stuff, hardly something tailored for the masses like the last two.

Muppet Babies have more brand recognition worldwide than The Muppets.

I am an example of this. I was introduced to The Muppets through this show when it aired on Nickelodeon. I never could figure out where Skeeter was until I was older and learned she was made up for the series. I was never a big fan of The Muppets but as a single digit aged kid I did like Muppet Babies over The Muppets.

Who is Robin? I don't remember that one. There was the hare and Beeker and Bunsen as guest, but I don't remember any others.

Robin is Kermit's nephew. He was in at least one episode of the original Muppet Babies as a tadpole. I always thought that was weird since Kermit was like 2 in the show. In The Muppet Show when Kermit is an adult Robin is 5. I think he's about 10 or 12 now.

Interesting, but I would much prefer the original series released on DVD/Blu Ray.

I don't think this'll ever fully happen. Muppet Babies used lots of clips and things. It'd probably be a nightmare to get all the rights and copyrights to those things to legally release them, unless they're public domain.

The real problem is it is more then likely owned by Disney who ether will never release it or will release it but never a complete release.

Yep. Disney half-ass every release.
