Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (2024)

nnounced today by Paramount+, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will become the fourth live-action (and sixth overall) Star Trek series produced for the streamer by Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout production company, and is planned to go before cameras next year.

March 30, 2023 – Paramount+ today announced the series order for the all-new original series STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY. The series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. Produced by CBS Studios, the series will begin production in 2024.


STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY will introduce us to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.


In celebration of this news, a joint announcement has been made by co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau:


Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau will serve as co-showrunners and will executive produce the series alongside executive producers Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber. The series premiere episode is written by Gaia Violo. STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY will be produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY is the latest addition to the expanding “Star Trek” franchise on Paramount+, which includes the current hit original series STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, STAR TREK: PICARD, the animated series STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS and STAR TREK: PRODIGY, and STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS.

So just more STD people and no Matalas. And when is this even set? Is this going to be Instructor Tilley in the 31st century? Good luck with that, if so. And the showrunner is Noga Landau, only known for the cancelled CW Nancy Drew show? Again with the CW people? Oh boy...

I remember this show being rumored since the Enterprise days around 2005, I guess it took them long enough to finally do it. The first few scenes of Star Trek 2009 are a nice enough glimpse what a Star Trek series set in essentially college of the future would be like.

Don't forget the Star Trek: Academy CD-ROM game from the 90s. Starring Shatner and Christopher Plummer. I actually forgot Plummer was in it as General Chang.

Well both Disco and Picard have been announced to be finishing. So hopefully this will just replace Disco and that they are saving Terry Matalas for the whatever series replaces Picard. Hopefully Legacy/Titan. I would assume they'll announce that soon enough when Picard finishes up. Or sooner First contact day April/05.

As for SFA, if it's set in the 32rd century and a direct sequel to Disco, I can happily, skip that.

Maybe it follows Picard's long haired Aussie Romulan mate.

I think this would work better as an animated series, in the style of prodigy. If it's live action I think it runs the risk of becoming Felicity in Space.

Who has never written anything before beyond a 2 minute... something, if IMDB is to be taken at face value. So pretty much all women creatively, across the board. Seems like, well, a choice.
