"The Next Chapter" implies continuation. If this was a reboot it would be "The First Chapter" or "The Beginning."
I don't think Nick really wants to take another risk on another new TMNT cartoon after Rise didn't do well at all, so makes me think they want to revisit something that was successful. The only thing that comes to mind realistically is some sort of continuation of the 2012 series, but I don't know for sure. The original cartoon won't get a new series (although more crossovers is likely), 2k3 won't be revisited, the old 90's movies are done, Mirage/Archie/IDW are comics so it wouldn't involve those...all that's left is 2012 and Rise...and Rise just ended so... |

Yeah it seems to be legitimate that they trademarked it, and yeah some sites do report on trademarks but it's not common since it usually leads to nothing, it's common for companies to register trademarks they have no intention of ever doing anything with them. I just wouldn't get excited, I can't remember a time when a trademark registration actually leaked something that happened.
I guess the soonest we could see something would be at Toyfair 2021 or however that's going to happen, if not then SDCC 2021. But honestly I think TMNT is on hiatus for the next couple of years. Which I'm ok with. Quote:

Very interesting, look forward to seeing more clues about what this might be.
Not sure what to think with that title. Sounds like a continuation as been mentioned, though on the other hand it could be a loosely generic, for lack of a better word, continuation based on the main TMNT concept that is just "next" because it delves into the adventures of a TMNT who have grown up. If an original series of its own, great. If a literal "next chapter" for 2012 with older TMNT, that's cool too, because that's what I'd been really wanting back when that one was ending. If it was a (decent) return of 2003 Turtles, I'd be ecstatic. Making Rise and going younger didn't seem like that great of an idea from the get-go, and the exact opposite of what I had hoped for... and maybe they've finally did a 180 in that direction, realizing after all that the big money is with the fans who have an income. Hope it's on tv, but if it ends up on streaming instead then I really hope it's available across a few of the most common services. Though that title mostly made me think of Next Mutation. I hope not. edit: The only thing that makes me doubt the possibly of 2012 continuation is because of the direction they took it. I know it was suggested that the Mutant Apocalypse episodes are just a possible figure and they have plenty of life left to tell about before those years, however it's hard to get past the part about the mutagen bomb that clearly happened while they were still young and split them up until they were reunited decades later in the Apocalypse eps. More edit: Looked up the trademark search to see for myself that it's on there. Yup. Now will it happen or be something that falls through.... time will tell. Yeah, if this is the next chapter, what was the last chapter?
Nothing good, I'd wager. Best case scenario of all the options I think they'd go for is maybe a "jump forward" continuation of the 2012 universe... but it probably won't be that. Probably some kind of murky Fred Wolf: The Next Generation, as others have surmised.

Well clearly the title can only imply an adaptation of 1001 Nights featuring TMNT characters, always leave the king with a cliffhanger.

If it were for the 87 Toon then it would surely ignore all the Red Sky seasons.

I dunno. The fact that it's still called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gives me the impression the characters will still be teenagers. Sure, Laird kept the title in Vol.4 when the characters were in their thirties but I can't imagine Nickelodeon doing that.
Maybe they are in their late teens and the show takes place after they'be defeated Shredder and the Foot and most of their major foes have been vanquished and there is a greater emphasis on new threats...although that was basically most of the Tales of the TMNT season of the 2012 show. |

I don't imagine this as a continuation of the original cartoon. There is nowhere to go and that brand of TMNT seems to serve it's purpose as a merchandising juggernaut among a certain demographic, without them propelling it.
It's not like there is a secret TMNT sauce there, it's just nostalgia. "The Next Chapter", in my mind, implies a desire to move on past the typical origin and Foot clan story we have gone through so many times. "Rise..." attempted to circumvent this by taking place before all those shenanigans, which also allowed them to keep the turtles young. I have to wonder if they're going to try the opposite move this time, if this is indeed a cartoon, which we know they've been working on. Still, it's hard not to notice the timing of this coinciding with massive "The Last Ronin" sales. It's nice to imagine they've finally green-lit something for older fans. |

Y'know, it would be a bizarre choice but I wouldn't 100% rule out it being a reworked continuation of "Rise", picking up where it left off and so on.
I mean, thematically it would fit. We're done with the "Rise" and now on to "The Next Chapter". I think odds are slim of that, truthfully, but I wouldn't 100% rule it out either. People did supposedly petition for a continuation/revival and stranger things have happened.

I could see that. It seems odd for them to move on with a series that by all accounts seems to have failed, but thematically it kind of makes sense and there is the movie on the way.
Maybe it seemed wiser to restructure the current show than start from scratch. |

I don't think there would be a "The Next Chapter" if "Rise" had enjoyed a big success... so I think it's unlikely they'd throw good money after bad in that way, if the opposite.

My first thought is its the title of the Rise wrap up that is the straight to Netflix film. A place is already made for it on Netflix so it would fit. The series was not popular so a full on sequel series would not be wise after it was wrapped up quickly and quietly after a premature renewal. A full on series is hard to believe.

And that would be a terrible name for the Rise movie.

I hope that this is going to be continuation of the 2012 series, as there is still quite a bit of unresolved stuff from that show that can be shown.
That, and it seems much smarter to continue the more beloved 2012 series rather than Rise, since the latter just didn't manage to find an audience to keep it afloat for long.

And "The Next Chapter"? Was "Rise" even written in such a way that it had linear chapters, or anything like that?

I doubt it, they even used Lorg Dregg in the 2012 series. They just would have April in the yellow jump suit again I imagine. |
