I always liked the tails. It helps make them more anatomically correct and gives them a unique look. I guess the reason it's usually not there is so kids don't mistake it for either a private part or something coming out of their behind, which honestly as a kid, I remember hearing comments about.

I always drew them with tails. I find it weird they wouldn't have them since they are turtles after all.
