I confess that I've heard the term "nappy" but never quite knew what it meant.

The only time I ever heard it used as a point of contention, was when Don Imus got in trouble for calling the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team "Nappy-Headed Hoes" as a joke. Which was kinda funny because I was doing a lot of move jobs for Rutgers at the time that whole thing happened. FYI, it wasn't much of a topic Around Here as it became on the national stage, where everyone was calling for his head and demanding he be fired, which I think he was.

But I DO remember that most of the outcry was indeed about him using the term "nappy-headed", specifically, so I guess maybe it is an implicitly "racist" term? Like Andrew, I'd never heard it used that way myself, but I wondered if I missed a memo. Because nobody seemed to care that he'd also called them all "Hoes."

Of course, the explanation for THAT could simply be, "Rutgers". It's pretty well established that of you're a girl and you go to Rutgers, then Yes, you most definitely ARE a Ho.

Kinda goes without saying. Thus, no outcry.

Anyway, yeah, no, I don't know. There don't seem to be "rules" for these things. It's like all it takes is one person SAYING something is offensive, and therefore it automatically becomes so.

Just seems like a word we'd probably get in trouble for using. Although when people describe hair as "kinky", I have problems with THAT, too.

I want to say "stupid!" or moreso "just cancel it!" (in this particular case) but at large I'd way rather this happen than... nothing happen. Filming wise. The cancelation of the arts needs to stop.

That's what I was talking about before... it was hard for me to imagine them giving her the red wig for fear of being accused of white-washing her or something. That she should, instead, proudly wear her natural hair, etc.. Maybe they'll start her out with the red wig then at some "important" moment have her throw it off, proudly.
