The smart thing for Marvel to do is:

1) NOT just give away the TV rights for the X-Men for nothing (Legion, whatever the YA series is).

and 2) Get the villains back first. You can build new "phases" or storylines around Galactus, the Surfer, and Annihulus much easier than a bunch of superheroes everyone is burned out on.

*insert obligatory Fox sucks joke*

I don't see what Fox can do with the Fantastic Four at this point. They earned almost nothing with Fan4tastic. Honestly no point other than dangling the keys.

A crappy movie and retained rights beats losing the rights, apparently.

Plus, when the X-Men franchise is still your #1 CBM offering, having some flunky properties to sell off piecemeal to keep your mutant movies going is good business.

Just look at Legion, Deadpool, and Logan. Look at all the movies Fox is going to produce in the next few years... Deadpool 2 and 3, X-Force, New Mutants, Dark Phoenix, X23...

The X-Men franchise isn't going away any time soon. Especially not with the Fantastic Four to take the fall whenever Marvel wants to play hardball.

True. Marvel might not even necessarily "want" the Fantastic Four themselves back, not right now. But Galactus? Doom, maybe? You betcha.

Marvel didn't give away any TV rights to Fox. Marvel Television is producing and has a stake in both shows.

To my understanding, Fox had the movie rights to the X-Men. NOT (explicitly) the TV rights, which were more dubious. If Marvel Studios (Disney) had wanted to do it, they could have probably killed Legion and Gifted or whatever it is before they even had scripts.

I remember there was some legal trouble when there was a show called Mutant X that was based on mutants and Marvel but not X-Men, was that show even any good? Sounds interesting.

Making an animated Fantastic Four movie is a great sneaky way to keep the IP, since it's not live action it won't be compared and you could actually get an audience that may like the heroes. Sucks for us that want a real live action F4 film and Doom/Galactus and others in a movie but I don't see Fox letting it go so easily.

It had John Shea in it [Lex from Lois and Clark], it had an interesting first season, but then the second became dragged down with standalone fillers and lost the attention of the audience, then one of the main characters abruptly left before the final season.

They could really use Doctor Doom. People know who he is for one thing - and by people I mean chuds like me who don't read Marvel comics. I had to look half of the MCU villains up, but Doom is iconic. For example, if it had have been Doctor Doom leering at the camera in the Avengers' post credit scene I would have been really excited, as opposed to thinking 'who's that purple geezer, and what's wrong with his face?'.

Same deal with Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - if they'd teased Galactus at the end, I would have exploded. Instead it's some dude called Adam?! I can see a guy called Adam at any bus stop, while Galactus is one of the coolest thing ever.

I believe the Adam mentioned in the end crefit scene is Adam Warlock who ironically is among the guardians of the Infinity Stones in Marvel canon. Not sure how he will fit in the movies but it is intriguing.

Yeah, it's Adam Warlock that was mentioned in the mid-credits

Like the "Ravagers," I don't think we'll be seeing Adam Warlock from Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in anything other than more Guardians of the Galaxy movies. We know he's not in the Infinity movies.

Warlock will probably be a antagonist of sorts in Vol.3 (Maybe starting as Magus and turns good) before becoming a new member

Seems likely.

We'll probably also be dealing with a bit of post-Thanos stuff with Nebula, either by her absence or her full membership as a Guardian.

And maybe some Rocket/Groot origins stuff? That'd be sweet. Or maybe that'll be a Rocket/Groot spinoff someday, like the comics...
