Cars 3 Images and Details Revealed by Disney•Pixar

It’s been quite a while since we heard anything about Cars 3, coming to theaters on June 16, 2017, but now Disney•Pixar is revealing the first details (via USA Today). You can view the first Cars 3 images in the gallery below and read on for plot details.

According to the newspaper, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) “will need help to compete in the increasingly high-tech racing world of the upcoming Cars 3. That’s where the new trainer comes in — the sleek, yellow Cruz Ramirez is a young Hispanic female race car who instructs Lightning McQueen, as this exclusive concept art depicts during a beach run.” The preparation is for the Florida 500, which is like the Daytona 500.

“Cruz Ramirez is trying to figure out how this old dog can learn some new tricks,” says Cars 3 director Brian Fee. “Think of where he’d be in his career now in real time. (McQueen) is not an old man, but he’s one of the older cars on the circuit with new rookies coming in. People start to wonder and ask when he might retire.”

Fee adds that those questions grow louder after newcomer Jackson Storm beats him. “Jackson Storm is the face of these rookies who have come onto the scene. And McQueen is in a position where his entire racing generation is being pushed out. But it’s too early to be shown the door right now.”

Also back for the third installment are Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), Sally Carrera (Bonnie Hunt) and Ramone (Cheech Marin).

Except The Incredibles 2. The only sequel fans have ever asked for, and the only sequel not produced.

Hooray for Cars 2, Cars 3, Monsters University, Toy Story 17, and Brave 2.

I get the no sequel sentiment but they just released two original films within the past year. People act like all Pixar does is release sequels.

That said I'm not excited for this at all. Cars 2 is the only Pixar movie that has no redeeming quality to it. At least we've got Coco coming next year too.

Cars is pretty popular with the kids. They get bad reviews, but they're a hit with the target demo.

I wanted a Monsters Inc. sequel but we got a prequel that contradicted when the main characters were said to meet in the original movie.

I agree nobody asked for Cars 3 or even Cars 2.

At least there will be an Incredibles 2 though why 2019!

The guys who wrote Monsters University decided to consider the "4th grade" line in the original as a monster figure of speech.

Even though I hated the last one and feel this is nothing more than a cash grab, some of the details of the movie sound ok to me. 1) I like the idea that Lightning is kinda taking on the Doc Hudson role in this one. 2) A Hispanic woman is going to be a main character. 3) Only a brief mention of Mater being in this. Hopefully his role has been reduced significantly.

Couldn't stop laughing after that teaser. Ridiculous level of pseudo-drama.
Gorgeous animation though. Just imagine what Incredibles 2 will be like!

I liked the Cars movies when they came out first. Their still pretty good for me. I'm curious about McQueen getting his ass (or exhausts?) kicked and (almost probably) dying.
