Favorite Turtle Designs?

My favorite Turtle design would have to be Michael Dooney's and designs inspired by it. The proportions make sense to me in contrast to other designs where the head and bandana seem to be off most of the time.

Mine are the 1987 series turtles during their look from seasons 1-7, even though their look from within that timeframe varied due to the different animators working on the same show.

It was interesting how the 1987 turtles sometimes looked very detailed and anime like.,

while also being very simplistic and almost hana barberra-esque at other times.

Personally, my favourite look for the 1987 turtles was the look that started being used in seasons 4-5, but then became firmly established in seasons 6-7. I like how it was one of the more consistently used designs for them, looks neat and clean and also combines the detailed/realistic as well as more simplistic/cartoony aspects that these turtles had through their portrayals by differnet animation studios:

Shredder could've done more than blow up the Channel Six building. I don't mean as far as murdering Splinter, but think of the possibilities if censors were not an issue.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

I like that first image. I haven't seen enough comic artists to give a fully fair opinion. My favourite are Nicks 2012's, captured me right away. That being said, different styles suit different tones/media types. I'll have to browse more comic images to choose for the darker/gritter types.

There's several designs that I really like, like the OotS game's take on a realistic 2012 design.

And Sophie's

I like far too many renditions to narrow it down to just one & I'd be here forever trying to even list ten.

Pretty hard to top Henson's turtles, though.

Hard to pick one in particular. I really like both FW and 2k3 designs despite both being quite different from each other. Each just fit their series' tone, know what I mean?

I also really like some Mirage designs and SNES Tournament Fighters designs. In the case of the latter, not just the Turtles' ,but all characters in the game.

The Tournament Fighters cover art is also one of my favorites. I've always found their poses really cool.

Hard to choose a favourite. I like both the 1987 and 2003 designs.

I also like the cover art for TMNT 2: Battle Nexus and the way the characters are animated in the cutscenes exclusive to the game.

Great work by Michael Dooney. I think he could have done something better with the artwork of the early Archie issues (cartoon episode adaption).

Having followed all the series I should say that it was the 2012 series because they made it that they all were different looking from each other. With the 2003 series and the 1987 series you needed to look at the color of their bandanas and their weapons to see whom you're dealing with.

They each had different heights, different skull shapes, different eye color and different body outlines. In addition Raph got cracks in his front and back shell, Mikey had freckles, Donnie had gap teeth and Leo basically was the most normal of them all.

With the Wolf series and the 2003 series you could chance a mask over and nobody would tell it was Donatello wearing Michelangelo's mask.

Not so with the 2012 series, even unmasked you can tell right away who's who.

The 2003 Turtles had different skin tones you could easily tell them apart without their masks.

Some of the Archie comics had great artwork and designs as the comics progressed.

I think they looked their best during Season 6 and 7 although as you say that style was featured in Seasons 4 and 5. Interestingly that style really was just an evolution of Season 2. Season 1's animation was pretty good as well.

If they all had Leo’s body type and were a little shorter, I’d say the PD designs. Well, except for the excessive junk on Miley and Donnie. Don’t like the films, but I love their “look”

I agree. Although Splinter always looked a bit to "cute", to me.

Dooney's really good on the Mirage side of things.

When I picture "TMNT" in my head, it's always the 1900 film versions, but I always liked the above-mentioned versions and the 2003 cartoon designs, as well.

I like Archie Splinter. He was a globetrotter, not afraid of taking the turtles on international journeys instead of just sitting in the sewers and telling them how dangerous the surface above is. The Fred Wolf cartoon could also use more of that, like they did in Vacation in Europe.

That's fine. I have no issue as to how the character was written, just something about the way he was drawn in the Archie book made him look a little bit too cutesy. Not sure if it's the eyes or the ears; just something makes him look a bit like a big stuffed animal. I'unno.

I don't appreciate Jim Lawson drawing Archie.
