Finally got around to the rest.
There are some things I would have left on the editing room floor. But all in all I liked it ten times better than thor 3, and except for the villain motivation, I am glad they kept it largely political free. Thor 3 I give a C-. this a Give a B.

It was a good movie though, unlike suicide squad.

Possibly. Not unearned, though.
I thought the hype and reviews were a lot of overcompensating and "hey we're not racist!" statements. But no, the movie was genuinely that damn good. One of the few MCU movies with a compelling villain. I don't know about all the Oscar awards, though, I never keep up with that. And Black Panther's CGI was embarrassingly bad.

Hardly a relevant statement. Squad won for Best Hair & Makeup, or something, which seems pretty fair. But even those of us who took the movie exactly for what it was and had a good time with it, were never gonna claim it was the "Best" in any other category one could think of.
No super-hero movie is ever the legitimate best movie of its year. I think it happened a few times - like a case could be made for both Batman '89 and Dark Knight being the best films of their respective years - but they weren't given credit for it. Nothing since then has genuinely been able to make a case for being the best movie of its year. They've gotten better, mostly, but they're still not "real" movies.

At least it didn't get the best visual effects nomination. That would have been a travesty.

No kidding. That third act Black Panther versus Killmonger fight was the worst.

Didn't see the movie, but I saw that bit, and... You're right.

Those sillies really think that Africans would have accomplished in several centuries, what Europe had accomplished in several thousand years???
Lefties are funny. To elaborate, so lefties here would be less (or more) triggered: everything that we have now is a result of a long and arduous process of social and cultural evolution, which have occurred since the dawn of humanity. It took Europe about 1000+ (about ~200k if you count from the "beginning" of humanity) years to get the Renaissance, which was a crucial step on the pathway to the modern society, mostly free from superstitions and institutions which were holding it back (though, lefties seemingly want to turn back time), as well as scientific and cultural progress. To think that African people, who were still living in a primitive tribal societies at the time, would have accomplished the same, just in few centuries without being disrupted by "evil white people" is a laughable thought at best, ignorant at worst. You can't jump from tribal / feudal society right into the technological revolution and society similar to that of the modern day, without having multiple hurdles. In fact, all our achievements are the result of this hurdles. Since without obstacles to overcome, without freedom of thought, without cultural clashes, there is no societal evolution. If Africans would have been left on their own, they would have become the same "living fossils" as some of the isolated tribes in the Amazon. And eventually they still would have been conquered by someone, because, that's how it works in the world - strong dominate the weak. |

Disney CEO says "Black Panther" is as good as anything Scorsese or Coppola has done in film:

Lolz I admit I do take some satisfaction in watching the Hollywood Blockbuster Pop-corn movies ruin the party formerly enjoyed by the darlings of "The Academy" and all that rot.

The strongest part of the property is Boseman who is incredibly likeable and plays a truly regal but approachable King. He's just cool to watch on film, and of course the Black Panther character himself is cool in every way. |
