He "left and disappeared into the shadows" for a very good reason and he is clearly not "misunderstood". The franchise clearly did not hold up very well after a while. The writers behind it were literally using their imagination way too much and forgot about how real life works. Psychiatrists and family experts who watched the series and videos felt that way too. There might've been some educational things in the franchise, but the truth of the matter is that life is not all about hearts, rainbows, and fluffiness. There are going to lots of times in your life where you feel angry and sad, but those emotions were discussed less than 1% of the time in episodes and videos. In real life problems don’t get solved right away by singing happy songs. If you look back on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and also what Sesame Street is continuing to do today along with Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, you'll see that are far superior when it comes to teaching important subjects to very young children. My siblings also went to the same schools or participated in soccer leagues with some of the child actors from the show and they learned that they were bullied as a result of taking part in the series.

This news demands a reaction from me, but I am not saying sh*t.
...Y'all can probably Mad Libs exactly what I'd actually say about it, anyway. I have faith in you.

I'll never forget being around 8 or 9 years old and opening up a video game magazine that had featured fan art depicting Scorpion stabbing Barney in the head.
Of course, Scorpion was the hot new **** in town, but it hurt seeing my old friend all cross-eyed and dripping from the head. |

In 1994-95, "party" places around here would advertise over-21 "Kill Barney Parties" on the radio for all the frustrated parents out there. I never got to go to one because I was a kid but I imagine that it was spectacular.

I'm legit excited for this, loved Barney as a kid, in fact I still have my Barney plush toy I got from that Christmas VHS special. I was actually under the impression that Barney was still airing, but apparently not, still reaching up to 2009 is quite impressive.

I’d like to this. I still have my original plushie too. The original version that didn’t quite match the show. There was early variants. Barney even looked a bit different in some vhs videos.
I also have the Sega Genesis game. Not really a game since it’s impossible to lose and the gameplay is basically nothing but if you liked Barney it was fun to go through. I didn’t keep up with the show later on. I occasionally checked it out during the 2000s out of curiosity. I knew it would come back somehow so it’s interesting to see what they do.

Never was a fan of Barney, the ideal I guess is ok, but it really failed on its face as a kids show imo. It has no emotion or "It". Just happy songs, and really no real story. As a kid, I pretty much felt Fraggle Rock was the greatest kids show there was. It was not all sunshine and roses in Fraggle land. It taught us how to deal with death, bullies, friend problems, if some one is sick, how to overcome your differentness to better yourself like Red and Cotterpin did, racism in a non out front way(The Fraggles not letting Cotterpin in the music feasible because she is a doozer, until Whembly stood up for Cotterpin) How the Gorgs, Fraggles, and Doozers needed each other even though they did not know it. Stuff like that, I don't think there will ever be a show for kids like Fraggle Rock.

No problem So just 2 of us this then?
Don’t know what they’re planning but a crossover with other edutainment shows could work. People are joking about turning it into a horror movie like Banana Splits.

I would absolutely pay money to see a gritty reboot movie where Barney is not only an actual dinosaur, but a cannibalistic serial killer who preys on and eats the small children left in his care.
I also enjoy glass painting and jigsaw puzzles.

Some TMNT merchandise was removed from stores due to the immense popularity of Barney the Dinosaur and Nickelodeon merchandise in the mid 90s (circa 1993-1994), so I imagine that most shellheads hate Barney and Friends.

There are so many better choices for movies...even from other kid shows.

The fact that this is even a thread somebody thought should be seriously discussed horrifies me.

Barney didn’t disappear. Millennials grew up and moved on. It couldn’t be that 1992 to 1993 fall TV season forever.
The Barney the Dinosaur movie will probably be a dud like the Power Rangers reboot from two years ago. |
