If he’s really retiring or taking a break I could see Robotnik just showing up at the end in the ARK or something. The movies don’t follow the games specifically so hard to guess what’ll be the main threat. It’s not Shadow. He’s not actually a villain just a rival.

I really hope Jim Carrey returns though. They could be keeping his involvement hidden.

Carrey retiring was outta nowhere. I was sure he signed for all 3 Sonic films before he announced it. Also, without him (or even worse, having some lame-ass replacement) will hurt the film. To what degree, it's too soon to say, but it will be a low point of Sonic 3.

I'm reminded that season three of Sonic SATAM was going to go a bit without Robotnik, replacing him with Snively and Nagus, who were series exclusive characters. Sonic and Tails would have been among the only carry overs from the games if that had been made.

With the movie coming out in December 2024, We still have the Knuckles series coming out the same year, Which will take place between 2 and 3.

Yeah to be fair, Sonic and Tails were the only characters around when that series was made (other than Robotnik and I guess Metal Sonic). Sonic 3 came out too late to see if they were gonna add Knuckles or not.
