Jonathan Krisel's Sesame Street Movie

Quote:
Sunny day, everything's A-OK, and then you find yourself fighting a Demogorgon and getting lost in the Upside Down...

Shawn Levy who produced hit Netflix show Stranger Things (and directed a couple of episodes) is currently developing a big-screen outing for Sesame Street.

Levy, who also directed the Night at the Museum movies and has produced a vast range of Hollywood films, told Screen Rant that he's currently plugging away at a treatment.

"Sesame Street is at Warner Bros, and we are right now working on a treatment for what I think is going to be a really imaginative and entertaining take on that beloved and decades-old global brand," he said.

"The trick there is to honour these characters that are beloved but in a movie that feels entertaining for the kids who we might bring to the movie but humorous on that second level for those parents who bring their kids. It's early - we're still at the treatment stage, but very bullish on that."

In stark reality, a Sesame Street movie is likely to feature muppetty adventures, songs, counting and possibly some cookie-based antics rather than telekinetic kids and otherworldly monsters, though Oscar the Grouch is pretty scary and The Count does appear to be a vampire.

Sesame Street has been around since 1969 and is one of the best-loved kids' shows ever featuring an insane roster of A-list guests.

It's already spawned a couple of movies in the '80s and '90s - one focusing on Big Bird and another on Elmo. No news yet on the direction this one will take.

Levy is working with writers Mike Jones who penned the English adaptations of The Wind Rises and The Tale of Princess Kaguya and long-time Sesame Street writer Joey Mazzarino.

For real? Not even the Big Bird movie?

Tell me about it. I still get emotional over the blue bird song.

Several movies. Follow That Bird being the most well known (and depressing). There's also The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.

How about a Muppets/Sesame Street crossover? They definitely fit well together.

And if you really want mix it up...they all visit Eureeka's Castle. The Count meets Batley.

Seriously if everyone agreed this would be awesome.

They've crossed over a few times in tv specials, once memorably when Henson died.

And of course Kermit was a regular fixture on it for a while

The movie will now be directed by Jonathan Krisel

Synopsis

Quote:
"In the movie, directed by Jonathan Krisel, Big Bird and his Sesame Street friends are mysteriously expelled from their neighborhood, finding themselves in Manhattan. They team up with a plucky history show host Sally Hawthorne who’s on a quest to save her show and prove that Sesame Street actually exists, with obstacles created by the “evil” mayor, with reasons of his own for keeping Sesame Street hidden from the world"

Sesame Street movies peaked with Elmo in Grouchland, and I'm not sure what can top it.

But what's throwing me for a loop is the Stranger Things producer.

That's like Spielberg going from Jaws to Land Before Time and American Tail.

Production for the film has been delayed by nine months. It was supposed to begin filming in July, but it has been pushed back to April 2020 due to Anne Hathaway's, who is playing the lead human character, schedule. There's a chance that it probably won't make its January 2021 release date now.
