I thought that was the entire reason Filoni invented SW's version of time travel in the first place. to give Disney an out, should they so choose, to reset the timeline back to the EU, or something new again..

I meant in the ST. Tons of EU stuff made a comeback in, well, the new EU.

I really doubt that.

Rey not from Jakku:

Also, might be a Palpatine contingency plan. That sounds fake and speculative, though.

Kylo Ren's helmet is back. I thought he beat it to disrepair because he was told he was hiding with the mask? Maybe that small detail will suggest repair to the disrespect of Rian Johnson.

Palpatine returning (if he's still alive) will either be the greatest idea or worst idea for the franchsie. Of course it all depends on the execution, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Is that a Palpatine render from the CG Star Wars Rebels?

Palpatine returning is the only way that they can somehow savage this pathetic trilogy, it's like a "sorry we ****ed up, here's something that will sort of make it work".

If they really are learning from their lessons then I guess I"ll take it. After TLJ I thought I was done with SWs but they seem to be taking better decisions. Sure they ****ed up the ST which is a huge sin but at least there might be hope for the future.

Are we sure he's the one that's going to be wearing it? He doesn't appear to be fighting with it in the footage we've seen. Or does he in the D23 footage?

My ideal Episode 9: Palps enters the scene, kills all the new characters and the rest of the movie is about DA SHEEV conquering the Galaxy. Movie ends up with the reveal of the new Death Star and Emperor opening portal to the another world to fry some Disney executives.

One theory I think. Will be that Palpatine will either possessed Rey or Kilo Ren.

The footage they showed at D23 showed Rey holding a red lightsaber and wearing a dark cloak of some sort.

So its possible that Palpatine as a Force Ghost has figured out a way to take over someone's body.

I could see Ben reforging it to reclaim his spot in the First Order as its leader, replacing Snoke. That would also be him overcoming Snoke's expectations, as he originally destroyed it because of Snoke's orders.

Overall I'm still not super hyped for this movie, but I'll admit that's a pretty sweet poster. Too bad it will inevitably be replaced by some generic "photoshop all the characters standing there looking five different ways" like all the others.

Going with...

Palpatine created Anakin via immaculate conception, now Palpatine created Rey via immaculate conception (thus maintaining Rian Johnson's "your parents are nobodies" thing with JJ has kind of said he'd do) to... fulfill some purpose. Maybe even carry his essence.

Still thinking "Skywalker" may be the name of what will replace the Jedi Order.
