And to that point, if they want to add a scene of her being capable and likeable and giving her some personality, that's a good idea. Make the story a little bit more about her so that she doesn't just feel like a cheap plot device. On top of that, the comic was built on decades of continuity and assumed the reader already knew who she was and cared about her, and a movie can't really do that. So that idea makes a lot of sense.

But this? Basically just making her "Batman's sex friend" who gets booty-called and ditched, then shot? It totally undermines that, and the character. It's just a really dumb decision all around.
Believe me, as an author and a huge Batman fan, I'm infuriated at this terrible decision. Unbelievable.

Exactly. This is the worst. Why didn't they instead weave in Nightwing or Robin and explain where they were? (I don't remember which came first... Killing Joke or Death in the Family)

KJ came first, I recall Babs was in the wheelchair when attending Jason's funeral

It's the other way 'round Cubed. Bruce tears her mask and top off.

Death in the Family comes after The Killing Joke, since a henchman of Joker's refers to Barbara being crippled.

Batman screwing Barbara are just old male writers who want to take out their sexual fantasies in fiction. Bruce is their self-insert character and they want to have sex with a girl about 15 years younger than they are. You can tell that's the only reason this Bruce/Barbara thing exists, its old disgruntled writers in their 30's and 40's trying to live through their sick fantasies.

Sickening.

But this is worse because Babara dated Dick who was essentially Bruce's adopted son. Its like a father stealing your son's girlfriend.

Just makes me sick. I actually prefer Dick with Starfire over Barbara but even then Barbara with Bruce disturbs me. Does that black cop who she married in Batman Beyond exist in the normal comic canon?

You do know Bruce and Barbara also had a past romantic relationship implied within the DCAU as well, yes?

And no Cubed, you're just as guilty as them.

These are professional men in the industry, not fanfiction writers. This place has no stuff in official canon that will be exposed and read by millions of people for decades.

Cubed, as a guy who has read numerous comics over the years, I can assure you there are much more controversial pairings out there than Batman & Batgirl. There's no reason to cry spilled milk over this, especially for a one off movie.

But Bruce/Barbara has now been in multiple things. There was also the DCAU comic where Bruce knocked up Barbara but she had a miscarriage when she was assaulted.
