Tbh, the stuff I was taught about sex in school was between 7th and 9th grade. Before that we were taught about the reproductive organs and such ofc, but I dunno, I think I was still a bit too young at the time to pay attention to that kind of stuff. I wasn't having sex when I was in 7th-9th grade or even kissing girls. So it's not like I paid much attention to that sort of information. I think I learned stuff better when I went online to look up for information when I was in my late teens. In HS I heard a lot of ignorant comments from some male classmates regarding sex. Several of them believed that using two condoms at the same time was all it took.

People talk about how in many poor African and Asian countries people don't easily have access to sex ed and information regarding sex, but you also see a lot of people in developed nations being ignorant about such subject. Or just not being careful enough.

Yeah, it opened around the time I joined this place. I was new to the forums and didn't have the guts to ask for permission to Krang to access it. So I never got to know what went down there. Also, some threads that get moved go there instead of to the disintegrator unit for some reason, which is weird. And annoying, since I like to re-read threads that were moved or closed down due to drama... what? don't judge me. bet many of you do that too!

For whatever it's worth, having worked as a temp pharmacy technician for about a half of a year, the New York statistic doesn't surprise me that much. When I worked at the pharmacy, it was somewhat surprising seeing middle-aged women and men being prescribed Valtrex. I'm sure some prescriptions were simply to reduce/control shingles or cold sores, but certainly not all with the amounts prescribed. I'm sure it was considerably due to Viagra that was created back in 1998, and with older men wanting to relive their "youth". The older and elderly population have experienced increasing rates of STD infection:

...But yeah, when you're bound to HIPAA privacy laws, you really get to see the unseen side of people. Not just those who have STDs to be treated, but others who have mental illness, or underage teenagers purchasing birth control, or (in this case, not bound by HIPAA) the occasional elderly, slow-walking, man who purchases 2 boxes of Trojan condoms at the pharmacy counter.

The 2008, 19% nationwide statistic for HSV-2 seems pretty close to the amount of Valtrex prescriptions (and other "ciclovir" drugs) prescribed for managing it, back when I used to work there coincidentally in... 2008 (which is how I remembered that statistic from long ago). If you have any friends who work in pharmacy or who is a primary care physician/gynecologist/urologist and ask about it, they'll give you a better perspective on how the statistics closely match up to what they encounter.

Untreatable ‘super gonorrhea’ on the rise, spread by oral sex: World Health Organization

The clap is clapping back.

A new strain of gonorrhea is infecting patients all over the world — and the World Health Organization is sending a warning that this mutant "super gonorrhea" is not treatable by current means. About 78 million people catch gonorrhea every year — but the new antibiotic-resistant strain developed through a mistreatment of gonorrhea bacteria left in the throat after oral sex. Gonorrhea in the throat often looks like strep throat, so doctors prescribe standard antibiotics, which then mix with the bacteria, creating antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea.

Both of the current antibiotics used to treat gonorrhea — ceftriaxone and azithromycin — are becoming increasingly ineffective against the new strain.

"The bacteria evolve(d) to resist them," said agency Medical Officer Dr. Teodora Wi. U.S. authorities have had some success against gonorrhea by using both ceftriaxone and azithromycin — but it's unclear how long such a regimen will deter the super gonorrhea.

The sexually transmitted infection, which can affect the genitals, rectum and throat, is the second most commonly reported STD in the U.S. — reported by 820,000 patients each year — but because gonorrhea often exhibits no symptoms, many people are initially unaware they are infected. Left untreated, gonorrhea can cause burning during urination, discharge, inflammation, and fertility problems in women. It can also increase the risk of HIV. It is spread through sexual contact, but can also spread from mother to child during birth.

Three new drugs are in the development pipeline, solithromycin, which has completed a phase III trial, and two other drugs which have completed phase II trials, but it is unclear how long it will take these drugs to reach the pharmaceutical market and whether they will prove to be stronger than the super bacteria.

Before then, health experts recommend safe sex with condoms, communication with partners, frequent testing, and the old boring standby, abstinence.

How A Man Caught The World's Strongest Super Gonorrhea To Date

A man had super news for his regular partner in the United Kingdom. Not good news, but super news.

Imagine the conversation after the man told his female partner in England that he had had sexual contact with another woman while traveling abroad. Then picture the dialogue after he revealed that he had caught not only gonorrhea but super gonorrhea. So much for bringing back souvenirs.

A report entitled "UK case of Neisseria gonorrhoeae with high-level resistance to azithromycin and resistance to ceftriaxone acquired abroad" from Public Health England described some of the details about this super gonorrhea, which was first detected when the man visited a sexual health services clinic in early 2018. The man had developed symptoms a month after having sexual contact with a woman in Southeast Asia. While his urine tested negative, a swab of his throat turned up the bacteria, which suggests that oral sex may have been the route of transmission. The bacteria turned out to be resistant to the standard antibiotics for gonorrhea, azithromycin and ceftriaxone, and was susceptible only to spectinomycin.

As the report indicated, this is the first reported case in the world of N. gonorrhea which has both high-level resistance to azithromycin and resistance to ceftriaxone. So, in a way, you can say that this man has the world's worst case of gonorrhea, which is a term used by James Gallagher for the BBC News. There's no indication of how his female partner took the news (aside from her testing negative for gonorrhea) and whether he remains partnered with her. But the "world's worst case of gonorrhea" is not exactly the kind of thing that would look good on a dating profile.

It was only a matter of time before such a resistant strain of gonorrhea appeared. As I've described previously for Forbes, super gonorrhea has been spreading and will continue to spread unless something changes. This is certainly not a slow clap. Inappropriate antibiotic use and unprotected sex (including unprotected oral sex) are likely contributing to the rapid spread of this bacteria otherwise known as the clap. And here's another thing that doesn't deserve a slow clap. Without enough new antibiotics being developed, we may run out of weapons against this superbug in the not too distant future.

This reported case of super gonorrhea probably means that there are many other people who are infected with this strain of bacteria but have not yet been diagnosed and continue to spread the super clap to others. The trouble is many men and most women don't even have symptoms when they are infected with gonorrhea. As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) described, even when a woman has symptoms such as pain on urination, increased vaginal discharge, or vaginal bleeding between periods, she may mistake these symptoms for a "simple" bladder or vaginal infection. The only way to know for sure if you have gonorrhea is to get tested via a urine test or a swab of the rectum or throat if those are areas of concern. Therefore, quite a few men and women may be spreading gonorrhea without even knowing it. In other words, regularly asking your dates,"do you have gonorrhea," is not a good screening method for gonorrhea, although it could impact the probability of a second date.
