I'm more worried about the quality of Chibbs writing than anything.

Considering his work on Broadchurch and Torchwood, I think he'll be okay.
ESPECIALLY Broadchurch. That was pretty stellar.

Come on, who didn't see that coming?!
I hope the writers give her a chance to do a good job. I don't know a lot about them, but I'm hoping they have some fresh ideas. I don't think I could take another 13 part diatribe on colonialism. Also, can we all grow up a little? It's just a dumb TV show about rubber space aliens; it's not worth popping a blood vessel over. If they'd have done this in the 80s, nobody would have cared, hell... most people don't care now. Do you have enough money to support you when you're old? That's worth worrying about.

Very strange reactions I'm seeing. There are admittedly quite a few dudes upset about this for reasons they're not quite adequately explaining or able to justify. Stranger still to me are a lot of women I'm seeing that are like, "Well, it's great that there's a female Dr Who like there should have been a long time ago, but this is still very problematic because... why does she have to be white and have blond hair? I guess we still have a long way to go, folks, blah blah." Like, really? Shesus, they finally do a female Dr Who like you wanted and this is what you're mad about?
Me, I don't really care either way. Now, Dr. Who IS definitely, quintessentially a dude. He is, absolutely. We met the original/real him, the first Doctor... and everything since is basically a new skin with a slight personality overlay. There can be no, "He's genderless! He's just this chameleon!" No. He's a dude, who sired kids and had grandchildren. BUT... his whole thing is that he is completely randomly -- totally out of his control and choosing -- given a body every time he dies and/or "regenerates." So why wouldn't it eventually be a woman? It seems far weirder that it wouldn't have already happened. It'd be like flipping a coin heads or tails 13 times, and it always being heads.

The other thing about the Doctor is that among the Time Lords, he was basically the village idiot. He couldn't pass the test for a license (after taking it multiple times) to use a TARDIS, so he stole the one that became his. Most Time Lords can control how they regenerate, but the Doctor can't do that either.

The show is very inconsistent to be fair. Sometimes he's an idiot, sometimes he's the most brilliant dude in the universe, and the writers don't seem to keep track. It irks me when they have him spewing bile about how backward humanity is, considering how terrible Time Lords were for the most part, but that's another thing that the writers sometimes remember and sometimes don't.
I'm not sure how much of this outrage I actually believe to be honest. Seems like most people don't really care. Call me cynical, but is this Auntie trying to jump the show out of a ratings slump?

Lowest ratings in the show's history to be precise, but that has more to do with streaming and online catch viewership than anything.

This would be some interesting dynamics...
Also "First male companion"???? Do we mean for this show? Because I'm pretty sure there were plenty before this guy. Ian and Jamie to name two.

Wouldn't even be the first male companion since the reboot, we've had both Mickey, Adam, and even Nardole technically (although I believe the species is asexual).

I personally don't count Adam, since he was only in one episode and f*cked up immediately and so hard he was kicked out.

Yeah, Bradley wouldn't even the first male companion to get top billing in the titles, as you had John Barrowman (though it took until his appearances in series three) and even David Morrisey and Bernard Cribbons got that in the specials.
