After a ten year stint, Roger Craig Smith is calling it quits as Sonic, the longest an actor has served in the role.

My hunch is SEGA dismissed him to maintain synergy with the movies, they'll probably get Ben Schwartz to take over.

Frankly, I don't really care who gets the role of Sonic. Hell, I won't care if Sonic's silent/mute.

Still, I will miss Roger, and I wish him the best on his endeavors.

Well, probably less like writers and more like "writers". I find it hard to believe that a Japanese developer that kept on treating story like an afterthought for 20 years suddenly decided to reach out to American comedy writers to craft a story for them. There's really nothing about the four games they "wrote" that strikes me like the story wasn't crafted by some member of the dev team.

In all likelyhood, they were not hired to make the story work, just to make the translation less clunky than it was before.

They did have more control over things like Sonic and The Lost World, and one of them wrote an episode for Sonic Boom
