Rewatching the series

I never fully watched the series (first 2 seasons only) and I've been sick the last few days so I decided to throw my DVDs on since I've been trying to.

Really a good show but do any of you cringe when splinter comes on? I HATE his voice and 10 years has not lighten my hatred.

LOL, what? I have no problem with Splinter's voice at all. The entire voice cast was well done for the show.

I don't hate it but wouldn't mind if they casted someone with a Japanese accent.
Mako Iwamatsu who voiced Splinter in the TMNT movie is still my favorite.

It's just not for everybody maybe?

I love this series as much as anyone else here, but even I have to admit it's not going to be every TMNT fan's cup of tea or what they personally envision their ideal take on the franchise.

Yeah 2k3 is by far the best of the 3 cartoons series but unfortunately there are people who don't like it. It's the same for any show, no matter how much we love them there will always be haters. We all have different tastes.

I say 2k12 is better then 2k3 in a number of ways, but 2k3 is better with continuity.

I love this series best of all the TV shows but I agree partly about Splinter. While I don't hate the voice for this series the 1987 series Splinter had a better voice. Just my opinion.

I think Splinter was fine here. Still has that "whispering wisdom" of his despite a lil' raspy. 2k7's tmnt movie of Splinter was kinda nasal, yet passable for me. From a clip I've seen of Nicks TMNT, Splinter's voice was... normal. Again, I've yet to begin that series, so it's unknown to me for now.

Haven't seen 2k14's tmnt movie to give my thoughts on their Splinter.

I'm currently rewatching the series, I only ever got to Season 1 episode 12 from the boxset back in the day and saw some other episodes out of order from season 2 on cable whenever I was at my Dad's way back then.

I'm now up to Season 2 episode 17 so everything is new ground to me (except for Chrell, read spoilers somewhere a few years ago and couldn't resist) but this is the Best Splinter I've seen so far in terms of being a developed rounded character due to both writing and acting. He is compassionate, strict, humourous, intelligent, wise, emotes well and a ninja master who more than holds his own. I don't find his voice jarring at all. I keep forgetting that he is voiced by a guy called Darren Dunstan.

Until the 2k3 series Kevin Clash's Splinter was my favourite version (I always hear his voice in my head when thinking of him, I still can't believe he's Elmo) but I have to say that he isn't as rounded in terms of fighting that he is in this series which is probably due to a lack of technology back then.

That being said, Hoon Lee's Version is also very similar to the 2K3 series in terms of being a developed rounded character with pretty much the same qualities that the 2K3 series had but his voice does have more colour in it than both Clash's and Dunstan's. I do think once there are more episodes Hoon Lee's version of Splinter has the potential to surpass Darren Dunstan's especially with Karai being his daughter and his friendship with Oroku Saki before it soured but the yard stick to me is the 2K3 Splinter.

The cast of the 2K3 series is the only TMNT cast to consistently voice their roles from beginning to end. No re-casts.

Except Raph. He sounded like a 40 year old man.

It was during the fifth season/the "ninja tribunal" season and the Fast Forward season that Hun's voice sounded REALLY different. It sounded normal again during the Back To The Sewer season as well as in Turtles Forever. But I thought someone on these forums had stated that it was the same voice actor, and that there was never anyone different voicing Hun.
