In the first movie, has anyone else noticed that there are some subtle undertones of romantic love between Raphael and April O'Neil?
Like, the whole thing with his sai. It's almost as if he purposely left it at the crime scene for April to pick up so he could keep an eye on her and protect her. But he acted like he lost it so his brothers wouldn't know about his feelings for April.
Also, when the foots attack her, and he comes along like her knight in shining armor and carries her away to safety.
Then, when they're watching the news, and April mentions Raphael, and his brothers tease him about turning red and he throws his sai at Donny. lol. He was probably mad cuz it's true.. cuz he really does love April like that, but he knows that he's a turtle and it could never work about between a turtle and a human.
Raphael's rivalry between Casey also comes from Raph's jealousy of Casey I think. Even though they do become friends later on, at first Raph is mad at Casey because Casey can be with April but Raph can't be with April.
At the very end of the movie when Casey and April are kissing, Raph's brothers try to comfort him (you just barely notice unless you pay attention) and nudge him to let him know that it's all good. But you can tell that Raph is cool with it after all.
I believe that some of Raph's anger comes from his jealousy of humans, and how he cannot truly be April's lover because he is a turtle.
The first movie was always more serious and adult-like than the other 2 movies, as you guys know. This is a very adult topic and I honestly noticed this stuff when I saw the movie, so I thought I should bring it up.
Also, when Raph falls through the glass at April's antique shop and she puts her arms around him and protects him from the foots while the other 3 turtles are fighting. Then later at her farm house she is pouring water on him in the bath.
Of course, there's the scene where Raph is keeping an eye on April at City Hall before she goes to the subway station.
C'mon!! I wasn't the only one who thought Raph was in love with April, right???
Oh yeah, and since we're on the subject of rivalry between Casey and Raph. Did anyone else notice that after Raph finally woke up from being knocked out at April's farm house, he NEVER said a single thing about having met Casey before on the streets of midnight New York City and fighting him, and getting really really pissed at him?
Just thought it was kind of funny. For someone who humiliated Raphael as much as Casey did, you would've thought Raph would've tried to start something with him after he found him hanging out with April and his brothers and especially hitting on April (who is Raph's wishful lover).
Well... ok, what do you guys think?
