I was able to play this finally! This has to be the best game ever! No other stealth game can stand up against this (points at splinter cell)
if you played this what was your thoughts?
(spoilers)
I think besides snake, ocelot was the coolest, here along he was in league with the patriots, I coundt believe that!
When Volgin was punching snake in the head, I couldnt believe he was still alive after that, and even after the torture he went through in the next seen.
god this was a great game.
I hope that konami would come out with mg1, and mg2 with MGS3 graphics, that would be really cool.
It might be the best Metal Gear game to date gameplay-wise, but I thought the story was lacking. That, and the radio conversations were so long, even I, a lover of a good story, was getting bored of them. I also wasn't a fan of the FPS drop in the game. The older games played at 60fps, and this game was running at 30fps. Not that it took away from the gameplay, but I notice this stuff, and it kind of ruined it for me. Not that it would ruin it for anyone else, though.
Overall, a very nice game. Wouldn't recommend it to everyone, though.

(I'm not usung spoiler tags here because you shouldn't be reading this in here unless you've played it or just don't care about spoilers)
I just finished it in a marathon run of about 12 hours yesterday, actually. And I noticed a lot of frame loss too. But regardless, I was VERY happy with the game and I'm absolutely in love with the Ocelot character now. He was cool as an old man, but he's easily the best part of the game as a young man. I love that weird little gesture he kept doing. Anyways, the gameplay was MUCH more complicated in this one than it ever has been, which made for a deeper experiance. The graphics were also greatly improved, expecially in the faces. The story was a little simpler and subdoed than the past 2 games, but I think that kinda went along with the theme of thew game. In contrast to the gameplay, I think Kojima wanted to express this as a simpler time, when the world wasn't so completely ****ed up like it is now and in 4 years (That's right folks, Metal Gear Solid 1 takes place in 2005!). But yeah, I think he got that across very well and really dsid sort of make you feel like you were in a completely different situation. Not just where you where, but when as well. I also noticed a strong twing of a lot of classic spy movie elements. Not necessarily Bond, cause that's so specific at this point. But I noticed heavy overtione towards that type of thing mixed with thew usual hardcore military sh*t you experiance in the other ones. Especially in the ending. Very cinematic, very reminiscent of that genre and time period. It's easy to forget that this isn't Snake as we know him. Yes, he's genetically the same, but he grew up in a different time, under different circumstances, and that can also go to explain why this one carries some different feelings to it than the first two.
But anyways, the game was fantastic, everything about it. ESPECIALLY Ocelot. I look forward to a sequel in which we see Snake's transistion into becoming Big Boss. Not just in title, but in actions. And hopefuly, they'll go deeper into the relationship between him and Ocelot. I expect (if there is another sequel coming) we have about 3 years until then (considering the period inbetween MGS 1 & 2 and 2 & 3 is, in both cases, three years).

Hideo Kojima will be a producer/writer for MGS4.
It also has recently been announced that it will be on the PS3 (with maybe and X-Box port).
I'm a huge fan of the series, but I think that while waiting for the next game, a remake of MG 1 and 2 on the PS2's engine would be fantastic. Add more story where applicable, especially between Big Boss and Frank Jaeger (Grey Fox, the first cybord ninja). That game would rock, tying MGS3 into MG2 and future stories.
I think that the story of MG3 was fantastic.
SPOILERS:
The main fact that I love is the idea of warrior alligience. "The Boss" was a national hero, that turned traitor (so you think for the game). Big Boss then became the national hero, but actually then became a traitor with Outer Heaven, the country based on the values of a soldier. I love how Kojima tied in what The Boss taught Snake into the events that took place later on in the series (MG).

Kojima Confirms New Metal Gear Solid March 03, 2005
by: Matt Saunderson
Kojima has announced that development will begin shortly.
At the Metal Gear Solid launch event in Berlin, Germany, Hideo Kojima confirmed that development will begin soon on a new Metal Gear Solid game.
The new Metal Gear Solid game will be the beginning of a brand new series. Solid Snake will be the game's central character.
The game won't be for the GameCube, though. It will be for an unspecified next-generation console. Kojima will be the executive producer of the new Metal Gear Solid game, and Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi will be a producer.

Well, RE4 on Cube ran at 30FPS. I know a friend who can run PC games like Doom 3 at like damn near 75FPS, and it looks VERY pretty, but RE4's poly count is so freaking high ('bout 26 million), I just drool when staring at it. Anything below 30 is just unacceptable though in my book. Still, I don't see why not running at 60 kills the game though....
*off topic*
I don't know how in the hell they pulled almost 30 million ploygons on Gamecube's pissy little 485Mhz Gekko Processor. That's just freaking nutso.
Kid Icarus
03-03-2005, 02:40 AM
They didn't pull it on the Gekko. They pulled it on that ATI graphics chip that in that loveable little lunch box.
And, btw, a MGS4 port would be more likely to hit Nintendo's Revoltuion before it hits the new Xbox, seeing as Ninty worked with Konami on The Twin Snakes, and even whored out a second party to make it.

Yeah, I do not doubt that their will be a port for the next Nintendo system, especially after twin snakes. But, I was just reporting what I read off some reports.
Frankly, after what I have read about the cell "chip", I'm dead thankful the game will be on the PS3, because the specs look like it will be the best of the Next-Gens, so that will be my first purchase. (Not trying to sound like a fan boy).

Well, here's something to consider. When the specs for the PS2 were released it was the most bezerko thing ever released. Hell, even Saddam Husien imported 200 of them for their chips  . But....the other parts of the system lacked, and in time it showed. In fact, the Dreamcast STILL has better texturing than the PS2. It also has no ability to smooth out rough textures on polygons and a very low ram count.
Sony was the first to release tech specs in this generation, and they're the first to release tech specs for the next generation. Don't count the other guys out quite yet. The Gamecube may be lower powered than the Xbox on paper, but in terms of performance, it kills Xbox. Neither Microsoft or Nintendo have released specs yet for good reason. For all we know they could be holding out to upstage Sony on Press Conference day.
PS3 has the best processor so far, but one of the other two could prove to be the more well rounded system. Remember, a processor can't carry a console by itself. A console is about balancing all of the hardware to work together as effeciently as possible. We won't know who has the best hardware until E3, if even then. Performance tests must be done by the consumers themselves. Spec sheets and cooperate representives lie.
Anyways, enough rambeling. Back to Metal Gear :)

Well, TMB, I can tell that I should never pick a fight with you over video game console specifics :D
What I said was merely speculative of what I have read thus far. So far I've been a sony boy, simply because I prefer the developer following that the company draws. But in terms of performance and developers for the next-gen, we'll all really just have to wait and see who will dubbed "king of games" (Yugioh pun not intended at first).
Also, I find it strange that someone edited my earlier post to add in a story about the topic. I appriciate the help by the mod, but I just don't wish to take credit for work I have not done (or get in trouble for it).

"Kojima also stated that the next game will be the beginning of a new storyline for the Solid Snake character, and that stealth won't be as integral to the gameplay as it has been in the last three Metal Gear Solid games. When asked to elaborate, Kojima would only say that their goal for this game is to give Snake "no place to hide."

Alright, just finished it. The game was awesome although the camera and the controls sucked. The story was a lot simpler than the one of MGS2. Actually a very good thing since the story of MGS got more than... let's say strange towards the end. My favourite character was definitely the Boss, the way she kept kicking Snake's ass and even scared Volgin was extremely cool.

I cant enjoy this game. Im tired of sitting through hours of dialog and watching movies that can last up to 40 minutes *cough*the ending*cough*. Its a great game but Konami focus is on the movie portion I guess. I know I could just skip the movies but you kinda wanna know the story after spending all that time playing. I have to say it's the best to date*Though I still like Twin Snakes better* Im not into stealth games anymore...Im into games that give me arthritis with-in 10 minutes

I am a fan of the entire metal gear franchise.
As far as gameplay,
I agree, the overhead view gets old, and the only thing its good for is for a good view when pressed against walls and looking at enemies around a corner at a distance....
I found myself switching in and out of 1st person view mode waaaay too much, just in order to see whats in front of me....
I like the first person view mode, but it shouldnt be a press to hold feature....
thats too limited, it should switch between 1st and 3rd person mode freely with the tap of a button, so that when you are in 1st person mode you can actually move forward without reverting ack to 3rd person view......
and further more, i like the crouching feature, but i dont like that i cant move while crouching either, that should be changed too... crawling can be initiated a different way so that we can move while crouching.
And I also think that a solid jump button would've recreated some of the levels to be a little more interesting.
The Camo, Backpack, and MedCare should be easier to access during gameplay, just like the items and weapons.
Other than these flaws, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the best stealth Action game with access to all the weapons you want (except maybe a flamethrower would be cool)....
And as far as Storyline.....
((((SPOILERS))))
I didnt care for how the Cobras explode after they're defeated in the story...
That takes away from the realism....
I know that the Metal Gear Solid series isnt known for being realistic as far as supernatural powers and stuff, but.... somebody should be slapped when when they have an idea to end the game 's story with The Boss's scar slivering off of her onto the ground like a snake, just because they want to be symbolic with that and all the crass and flowers in the field mysteriously changing color.....yeah, it was dramatic but that is definatly senseless expressionism....and speaking of senseless, I could've done without Volgin feeling up Snake, or The Fury's flaming face ghost thing, or the constant going on and on and on with the excessive blah blah and more blah blah...waste of game's memory to put so much bull crap....
Ohkay, now that i got through the nagative part.... I did enjoy the story.... and the fact that Ocelot picked up the revolver because of Big Boss's advice....and later when Ocelot shot Big Boss's eye... that and Volgin beating the everliving crap out of Snake's face was one of the heaviest cutscenes in video game history I was also wondering how the hell he survived......I like how we get to see Big Boss kinda turn sour at the very end.
And I really hope to see a future game , like a re-make of MG1 and MG2:SS combined since they're old nintendo games....
Or maybe we can see another game that takes place after this, So they can get into detail about forming Fox-Hound and his involvement with Grey Fox before 'Outer Heaven.'
Anyway, despite the negative things i've said i will always be a fan of the Metal Gear franchise...(believe me, i have a lot more bad i can say about MGS2.)
And Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be the best of it's kind untill we see yet another Metal Gear.
I've been going off and on with this game as far as difficulties go for a good while now. The game truly is wonderful. It's different from the other games, but I actually found that appealing.

I bought this game for my husband for Christmas, and despite devouring the last MGS in one day, I can't get him to play the game for love or money. *Some Spoilers*Sadly, I liked this game more than the first two. I hate thwhole 007 rip off, being the main bad guy of the first two games, knowing his fate (which is why I don't like the new Star wars movies, due to knowing the main characters fate anyway), most of the game is made up of jungle (even though the other games were mostly made up of their main thing, at least Big Shell had girly posters all over the place, more so than MGS3 had, and pathetic bad guys (only liked Ocelot and Volgin, but prefer Liquid, Dead Cell, and Fox Hound). Why I like this game the best, I'll never know...But I do prefer the Codec characters here than the others. Zero, Para, Seigt, those are the most hillarious convo's of all time.

I don't really get the compliants about there being too many movies since you can always skip right to the gameplay in seconds with the tap of a button. I apriciated that there were less mandatory codec calls than in MGS2.

When you're in the cave, call Eva. She will tell you that Ocelot is only 19, and was pushed to the top ranks because he was the "son of some legendary soldier". And The Boss (forgot where it states this) gave birth on D. Day. They never tell you flat out that he's her kid...
But, there is no reference to the Sorrow except that he was her partner and good friend/romantic interest. Makes sense if he was Ocelot's pop, but there is still some mystery there.

Still too many movies for my taste but it's better then long drawn out radio convos which there arent many so it's good. Snake is really cool in this game. I like the who style of it and all so once I beat it Ill post more of my opinions.
THese graphics, though impressive, still have rough edges and things still look kinda blocky which doesnt matter but I dont see how it's the best looking PS2 game. Graphics dont mean anything to me but yeah....WOW Revolver looks uhhh really gay o_O He looks like a girl or an asain o_O Either way I find it funny how in the first game he doesnt know who Snake is or remembers Snake fromt his one! Well, in the original Metal Gear, Big Boss becomes a traitor and forms a country as a soldier's paradise called Outer Heaven. The country's greatest hero turned into a traitor; this shows how Big Boss followed in the footsteps of The Boss. A lot of coralation there.
Sons of Liberty was about a training session to be a final test for Aresnal Gear's information censoring. They chose a strict mind that will place blame on others intitially, representing the mass laziness of the general public, Raiden/Jack. The whole tanker and Big Shell occurances were staged, even Solid Snake's appearence later on (Ocelot says he caused it, but it was in the plan's design). It ends up with Liquid Snake, in Ocelot's psyche from having his hand constructed to his body, goes after the Patriots, but to a wrong location. Solid Snake goes after the Patriots to free Olga's baby being held captive as insurance by them. Raiden ends up going off with (the real) Rose.
Turns out the Patriots, the true leaders of the United States/free world, created Arsenal Gear's filtration GW to filter the flow of open information that could pose a problem to their control, and everything was a final test for its software.
Edit: By the way, MGS4 had a clip at E3. Exclusive to PS3 as a sequel to Sons of Liberty.

Makes me wish maybe in the begining of DMC 4 they show Dante come back from Hell, they better explain how!, and he gets off his bike and when Lucia comes at him for a hug either one of the following happens. Trish comes out and kills her ass or Dante brought back an inner demon and it takes him over and he butchers her
I wish all video game charcters we hate could be regonized as hated by the general public and killed in the sequel

I liked Raiden. Not sure what everyone hates about him. Snake is MUCH better, but as far as playing as them (which there is only one difference, the rolling attack), I prefer playing as Raiden, ONLY because his roll attack is better.
I hope Raiden is in MGS4, at least either as a second playable character, or just a Plisken(sp?) type character. I'm glad we're haveing Snake as the main character again, but wasteing Raiden, shouldn't happen.
I hope they also mention what happend to Olga's baby. MGS4 takes place 4 years after MGS2. So Olga's child would be what, 6 now?
And Ocelot/Liquid is still alive after four years? I figured Snake would of hunted him down by now.
Sooner or later, Snake will be too old. MGS2 took place two years after MGS1, and there were two years in between MGS2, now it's four years later. Snake will be getting greys soon.
Liquid is bragging about life, he took an old mans body, he should realise he's only got so little time left.

That's not entirely right. Ocelot says that the Big Shell was all staged, except for the appearance of Solid Snake.
Fortune : All orchestrated...?
Ocelot : Except for the appearance of the real Solid Snake. I wonder now, who sent for you...?
When Liquid emerges while Ocelot's sitting in Metal Gear Ray, he reveals that he took over Ocelot's body and "leaked" the information to Otacon so that the real Snake would show.
Liquid : Exactly. I was controlling him. Snake, it was I that leaked
information about Arsenal to your partner and got you out here.

Well, at the end before the final boss fight against Solidus, the GW persona tell Raiden that the experiment involved Snake, and what I take from Liquid being involved, since he was given a fake location for the Patriots, is that he and his leak was part of the experiment as well. I could be wrong, but I recollect that at the end its revealed that the entire thing was staged.
A point to remember is that everything that is stated before the end of the game is not reliable, because Ocelot states that the training program is for the perfect soldier, but it wasnt. It was for their software.
Ah, I should go back and play through it again, I don't remember anything of what GW/Campbell said at the end... don't wanna go into MGS4 misinterpreting the end of the second game ;)

I believe your correct, I dont remember awhole lot from that discussion, but that sounds just about right.
Saw the MGS4 E3 trailer, Im excited to see the return of meryl, I always wondered what happened to her.

The remake is incredible. Took a game from 2004 and updated the controls and graphics and now it's a near perfect videogame.

They remade Metal Gear 3? Did they ever remake the first one?

Technically, Metal Gear Solid 1 is Metal Gear 3, Metal Gear Solid 3 would technically be Metal Gear 5 and that's the one that has been remade. Anyway pedantic nitpicking aside, Metal Gear Solid 1 has not been remade in the past 20 years and certainly not recently if that's what you meant, but there was a remake for Gamecube.

They remade MGS1 in 2004. Like....20 years ago. But they're likely going to make a new modern MGS1 remake too in a few years.

Metal Gear is probably the biggest series I haven't played that I'd love to have played. But I didn't have a PS1 and only got a PS2 in 2005 and had other interests at the time. I also did not have Twin Snakes for the GameCube or that Game Boy Color Metal Gear game. And I haven't bought a Sony console since the PS2.
Besides, as a little kid in the 90s/early 2000s, my English was not good enough to understand a complex plot like the one from the Metal Gear series. Games do not get translated/localised here. And I spoke to a Swedish guy around my age who also did not play the MGS series ever as a kid for the same exact reason. Before you mention RPGs, I only played Pokémon as a kid which uses simple language and has a simple plot. And the N64 was not known for its RPGs. I didn't start getting into JRPGs until I was a teenager.
I guess I'll have to buy the Master Collection on the Switch eShop someday. At this point there really is no excuse anymore not to have played it.
I've routinely said that I've mostly removed video gaming from my life, and that is true.
But around black friday I bought that Resident Evil 2 remake for the PS4 - I saw it pretty cheap and because it was remade to be like RE4 I figured I'd try it out. I didn't expect to even beat it as much as dick around with it and then just stop. But I plowed through it.
If Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 got remakes like that? I'd probably give them my time. That and the Parasite Eve games, but those are so far gone now that they've become "occasionally referenced, legendary games that haven't been played by generations of gamers".
I wouldn't mind someday playing through the PS3 Metal Gear game again too. I played it before it had trophies......
